Janet Jackson Pregnant With First Child

Just in time for Mother’s Day, a source for superstar singer Janet Jackson confirms that she’s pregnant with her first baby.

Entertainment Tonight reports that Jackson, 49, announced that she would be postponing the second half of her tour after a “sudden change.” Although rumors circulated that the change meant Jackson was pregnant with husband Wissam Al Mana’s baby, there was no confirmation of it until today. Part of the pregnancy speculations occurred after Jackson posted a video message last month, explaining to fans that she was planning a family with Al Mana.

“We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change. I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.”

Jackson, who’s always been private with the details of her personal life, married Qatari billionaire Al Mana in 2012, but it wasn’t until 2013 that the union was revealed to the public. Jackson was married twice before, but neither marriage resulted in any children. Her first marriage, to musician James DeBarge, ended in an annulment in 1985. Her second marriage, to former manager Rene Elizondo, ended officially in May 2000.

The “Control” singer, who turns 50 on May 16, talked about having children and even adoption in the past. In a 2011 interview with Piers Morgan, when the singer was dating music producer Jermaine Dupri, she said that she’s relying on a higher power to decide when and if she would have children.

“I’ve given that up to God. I never really thought about having children until I got with Jermaine Dupri, when he and I were together. That was the first time I really wanted to have children. I felt comfortable in the relationship at that time. How he would be as a father, how he is as a father – he has a little girl. But we’re not together anymore so I don’t know if I’ll have kids. But I’ve really given it up to God, if it’s meant to be.”

Jackson also said that she’d do things differently than her father, Joe Jackson, a man infamous for his violence towards his children, something pop star Michael Jackson spoke candidly about in the past. According to Janet Jackson, she would shower her children with love and wouldn’t force them to work like her father did to her siblings.

“(I’d give kids) a lot of attention, a lot of love, spend a lot of time (with them). I’d let them know how much I loved them all the time. They’d know. They wouldn’t have to work, guess.”

The pregnancy is not only great news for the parents-to-be, but also for fans, who were scared that Jackson may have medical issues she’s not divulging. In February, she was rumored to have had cancerous tumors removed, which caused her to temporarily delay her tour. Jackson later denied the rumors and told fans that they shouldn’t worry. Although she did have surgery, she denied that she had cancerous tumors removed.

The rumors are untrue. I do not have cancer. I’m recovering.”

Although numerous fans are probably disappointed that they can’t see the “Love Will Never Do” singer in concert this year as expected, it’s a small price to pay for Jackson’s health and well-being as she embarks on a new chapter in her life. So far, there’s no indication when Janet Jackson is due to welcome her baby into the world.
