Britney Spears Joins The “Nearly Naked Instagram Selfie” Trend With Bikini Pic

Britney Spears uploaded a photo to her Instagram Tuesday that showed off her stunning body in a very small lime-green swimsuit, and in doing so showed that she is on board with the recent trend of women showing off their bodies on social media in order to stay relevant.

The photo clearly follows the example of Kim Kardashian and other female celebs who have recently been posting a lot of selfies of themselves, very sparsely dressed and pressing their breasts together with their upper arms.

In the photo’s caption, Britney let her fans know that the swimsuit she has on is one of three swimsuits she bought that day.

“This one is my favorite!” she writes.

Despite the fact that Britney Spears is very sexy and she knows it, this is the first time she has delved into such obvious body-flaunting territory. That is not to say that Spears has never taken a selfie or has never been photographed in a bikini, and it is pretty universally recognized that Britney’s smokin’ figure is the main attraction of some of her music videos, but she has in the past made it a point to steer clear of the Kardashian-esque portrayals of a sexy body with no other factors — like a stage performance ora landscape in the background — even pretending to supplement the imagery.

Britney Spears has come a long way since the days she teased fans as a sexy schoolgirl exclaiming that “oops! I did it again.” She is now the mother of two boys, ten year-old Sean Preston and nine year-old Jayden James Federline. Spears is pretty good at the job of being a single mom, too, with People revealing how dedicated she is and how much time she spends with her sons despite her time-consuming residency in Las Vegas.

But Britney’s passionate approach to motherhood does not mean she is ramping down her self-portrayal as a sex symbol. In fact, The Inquisitr reported previously, Spears is currently initiating a career revival that will bring her public persona into edgier territory than ever before.

Spears’ onstage outfits in particular have gotten a lot more revealing than they used to be, notes Britney’s costume director.

“They are hotter and sexier, showing more leg, more cleavage, and more midriff.”

Maybe that is part of the reason why Britney is not too shy to go on Instagram and unapologetically put her body out there for the web to see and critique, despite her status as a 34-year-old mother.

To be fair, Britney does have a body she can definitely be proud of. The Daily Mail points out that Britney Spears’ “Piece of Me” Las Vegas residency has been “gruelling” and that it is thanks to her recent hard work that Britney is “in the best shape of her life.”

Some of the feedback on the photo was negative — user kagepmystic told Britney to “put some clothes on heffer” — but the vast majority of Instagram users who commented gave Spears the credit for which she was hoping.

“Waw!!!! Very slim and very beautiful!!!! I like you,” wrote user nabokina_irina.

“I love you Britney,” commented britney_spearsx.

“Get it brit!!!” wrote ave_gutierrez.

Other users saw the photo as a publicity stunt Spears was posting only to draw attention to herself.

“Nothing like 130,000 likes to make you feel good,” wrote user sammy71112.

This theory would make sense, as Britney will be featured in May 22’s Billboard Music Awards, where she will become the third artist ever to receive Billboard‘s Millennium Award, and she would like to generate as much buzz around herself as possible before then.

Will Britney Spears really go through with what she has said she might do and get even edgier at the Billboard Music Awards? We’ll have to wait until they air at 8 p.m. EST on May 22 to find out!
