Princess Charlotte Showered With Gifts From Around The World On First Birthday, Includes Diamond Studded $45,000 Rattle

Today is Britain’s most adorable princess’ birthday, and while she may still be too young to fully appreciate them all, the world is is showering Princess Charlotte with extraordinary gifts. Many countries are even holding their own celebrations in honor of the milestone that is Princess Charlotte’s first birthday.

Officials from Kensington Palace have announced that over 64 countries, from Armenia to Zambia, have sent letters and gifts to Princess Charlotte for her birthday. The palace has also satisfied the curiosity of the media by releasing a list of some of the goodies that were sent to the adorable 1-year-old, at least a partial one. The palace also released a statement of thanks to those who have been honoring the princess.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are incredibly grateful for all the letters, gifts and good wishes they have been fortunate to receive in the year since Princess Charlotte was born.”

Most persons already know that one of the most recent and high profile visitors to the palace were United States President Barack Obama and wife Michelle and they delivered an early birthday gift during that trip. From them Charlotte received a jigsaw puzzle and a plush toy version of Bo, one of the couple’s two black-and-white Portuguese Water dogs. The Palace released a photo of the princess gleefully enjoying her puzzle and a photo taken of President Obama and Charlotte’s dad Prince William in conversation during the April 21 dinner shows the soft toy dog on the table.

Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron and Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Prime Minister, are two more world leaders who sent the young princess gifts that she can certainly keep for life: books. Cameron’s gifted book was a copy of Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales. While the title of Trudeau’s book was not given, it was said that the Canadian also sent a snow suit and made a donation of $100,000 in Charlotte’s honor to Immunize Canada.

The young Princess also received an early gift of a silver rattle from the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, and his wife, Señora Angélica Rivera, last year during the Mexico state visit. People wrote that during their state visit in October Chinese President Xi Jinping gave Charlotte a set of silk figurines which depict the 19th century Chinese novel, Dream of the Red Chamber. For Princess Charlotte’s first birthday the government of Australia sent a cot blanket made from Tasmanian merino wool while New Zealand sent blankets, booties and teddy bears of their native Stansborough wool.

In keeping with the theme of things a young child could possibly use Israeli President Reuven Rivlin presented a pink dress embroidered with the words “From Israel With Love.” Both Princess Charlotte and Prince George got two beautiful handmade coats when Will and Kate toured India and Bhutan gifted from King Jigme and Queen Jetsun.

USA Today reported that the absolute most practical gift the princess received was from her aunt, Pippa Middleton, and was a set of biodegradable diapers made out of natural mull cloth and they cost about $5 USD each. Charlotte’s grandfather, Prince Charles, gave his only granddaughter a willow rattle woven by Ireland basketmaker Ciaran Hogan.

On the other side of the spectrum of usability, and representing the most exorbitant gift by far, was the gift of an 18K white gold baby rattle which was studded with diamonds, rubies and sapphires. It is worth about $45,000, and was a gift from the U.S.-based company Natural Sapphire Company in New York. Receipt of this gift was not confirmed by the palace but announced directly from the company.

The young princess will be spending her birthday at home with proud mom Princess Kate, who has already released a series of beautiful photos of Charlotte, plus Charlotte’s dad William, brother George and some close family friends at Anmer Hall.
