New Katy Perry Music: Is The Pop Queen Releasing A Country Album?

Fans have been waiting for the follow-up to Katy Perry’s 2013 album, Prism. Little is known about her next release; however, rumors have been swirling that she’s interested in releasing a country album.

Earlier this year, Katy Perry traded in her pop star credentials to honor Dolly Parton at the 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards. The buxom women got together to perform a medley of Parton’s hits, including “Nine to Five” and “Jolene.” Perry even got into the country music spirit by wearing some colorful cowgirl outfits, courtesy of fashion designer Jeremy Scott.

Now new details are finally coming out about Katy Perry’s highly anticipated new album. Sources told Digital Spy what fans can expect about Perry’s fourth studio album. Last year, her manager announced that Perry would release a new album by spring 2016, but fans haven’t heard anything about it since.

“Although Katy Perry is still supporting her Prism album across the globe, her manager has confirmed that the pop superstar’s fourth full-length is not too far off – as in, it could be here in eight months.”

Eight months from last May was three months ago, and Katy hasn’t said anything about her upcoming release. In an interview with the New York Times, Katy revealed that she’s still in the songwriting process and is doing things differently this time around.

“I do my records in a more traditional way, where the cycle is three years, so that once I start writing them, I know exactly where I’ll be in spring of 2018. That can get a little bit like ‘Ugh’. I need a little bit more freedom, especially when I’ve been doing it for this long.”

When it came to her last three albums, Perry teased her big release by dropping a hot summer single. So, there’s still a possibility that she could drop a new song by the summer. If so, then fans should expect Perry’s album to happen during the fourth quarter (from October to December), when sales tend to be higher than usual because of the holiday season.

But Katy Perry has only registered three new song titles since 2013: “She’s So Creepy,” “In Flames,” and “Heartache Crusader.” She’s also been working with British DJ Duke Dumont in the recording studio. The duo previously worked on the song “Every Day Is a Holiday” for Katy’s H&M Christmas ad campaign last year. She may also team up with Max Martin, who produced her hit songs “Dark Horse,” “Roar,” and “Teenage Dream,” among many others.

Her collaboration with Dr. Luke could still be up in the air amid Kesha’s ongoing legal battle with the scorned producer. It’s unclear whether or not Perry still wants to work with him. In February 2015, Katy revealed to the Associated Press that she wants to focus on reinventing herself rather than following the current music trends.

“I can’t keep topping myself because I’ll just combust at some point. You can’t keep topping yourself when you’re at such a height. There’s only one Mount Everest and once you’ve reached it, it’s like where do you go from there? You’ve just got to sail somewhere else.”

There’s also another question on fans’ mind: Will Katy Perry finally collaborate with her BFF Rihanna? She said back in 2013 that it would take the right song and the perfect timing for that to happen. Still, it may not happen since the singer worked with Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Calvin Harris on their new song “This Is What You Came For.” As most know, Katy and Taylor are pop music’s biggest rivals. But an insider revealed to the Hollywood Life that Katy is totally understanding of Rih’s decision to work with the producer once again.

“If it helps Rihanna and she isn’t dissing her, then Katy is totally cool with Rihanna working with anyone she wants to, even if it was Calvin or Taylor or John Mayer. Katy can separate things because she knows you have to in the music industry.”

But it looks like Katy Perry is super focused on her makeup and beauty line as well as her “blooming” relationship with Orlando Bloom. She also has been promoting other up-and-coming singers such as Swedish Pop star LÉON, whom Perry has called the “one to watch.”
