‘Suicide Squad’ To Reveal The Joker’s True Origins? Plus 3 Reasons It Will Outgross ‘Batman V Superman’

Fans are in for an entirely new take on The Joker when Suicide Squad hits theaters later this summer. While details about Jared Leto’s version of the iconic villain are few, the film might include the character’s origin story. With so many fans eager to see Leto and the rest of the villains in action, will Suicide Squad outgross Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

According to the Nerdist, the Joker will definitely get an origin story in the comic book world shortly. This news has led many fans to speculate whether or not Leto’s version will get the same treatment in Suicide Squad. Fortunately, Leto sat down with Coming Soon, and hinted that something along the lines of an origin story will be included in the film.

“I don’t think I’m allowed to talk about that so much. But we walked in a completely new direction… I think we knew that we had to do that. It was important to do that. When The Joker has been done and done so well, it gives you a bit of an indication of where you shouldn’t go. There’s a bit of a map there. That’s the good part about it.”

It isn’t clear if The Joker will get an origin story in Suicide Squad, but fans are definitely in for a new take on the character. In fact, Leto went on to express his excitement at the opportunity to take on the role and re-define the character for another generation.

“It’s quite an honor [to play the character]. Joker has been written about in pop culture for 75 years. I’m just the latest in the long list of people who have redefined and reinvented this character,” Leto continued. “… People have taken The Joker and reinvented and redefined for 75 years. It is really special to be asked to do that.”

Meanwhile, with excitement for Suicide Squad reaching new heights, it will be interesting to see if it outgrosses DC’s most recent offering, Batman v Superman. Considering Batman v Superman will likely end its run below the $850 million mark, here are three reasons why Suicide Squad will do better in worldwide sales.

For starters, Movie Pilot is reporting that Suicide Squad’s biggest strength is that it has a large number of well-known actors on its roster. Sure, Batman v Superman had Ben Affleck, but Suicide Squad has at least four actors that will draw crowds, including Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Affleck.

While Suicide Squad is bringing plenty of popular actors to the tables, its characters are just as popular with fans. Not only will Suicide Squad feature a Batman cameo, but its villains include several that have never graced the big screens, including Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Of course, The Joker is another big draw, especially considering how the movie is pairing him up with Batman.

In addition to the actors and characters, the third reason why Suicide Squad will do better in theaters is because of its originality. Fans have never seen a movie on this scale that centered on the viewpoint of the villains. That alone is a strong selling point for the film, and will help bring in fans to watch their favorite villains fight on the good side for once.

In the end, only time will tell if Suicide Squad sells more tickets than Batman v Superman. Considering all the hype the movie has garnered in recent months, there is a good chance that it will end up selling just as much, if not more.

Suicide Squad is set to open in theaters August 5, 2016.
