WWE Rumors: What’s Next For Shane McMahon And The Authority?

Leading up to WrestleMania, Triple H and Shane McMahon were separated on-screen. Shane was focused on his feud with the Undertaker, with Vince playing the role of puppet-master. Triple H was busy with his main-event program with Roman Reigns. The only key figure who occasionally crossed over into both angles was Stephanie McMahon, though near the end, her main focus seemed to be on her husband and his world title.

At the time, rumors circulated about a major backstage power struggle pitting Vince and Shane McMahon against Triple H and Stephanie — perhaps some real-life tension playing out on television. While that still may be the case, there’s also the chance that Shane and The Authority were kept apart as a way to save their eventual interaction for another big angle. We’ve already heard reports that all of this could lead to another brand extension, complete with a roster draft and all. Shane McMahon would lead one show. The Authority would control the other.

A most recent report from F4Wonline states that The Authority could be going away for quite some time. In fact, we’ve not seen nor heard from Triple H and Stephanie since Hunter lost to Reigns to close out WrestleMania on the first Sunday of April. Some speculated that we could endure an extended absence from WWE’s power couple, but it appears we’ll see them before we know it. The report suggests that The Authority will return to WWE programming and begin an angle with Shane McMahon, with Shane being the one that ultimately banishes his sister and brother-in-law.

It’s not clear as to when or how this will all come to a head, but all indications are that when it reaches its culmination, Triple H and Stephanie will be gone from TV for a while. And the fans would have Shane McMahon to thank for it. Logically, Shane shouldn’t even be a part of Monday Night RAW. He lost his Hell in a Cell match to the Undertaker. The stipulation stated that had Shane won, he would assume control of WWE’s flagship show. But for three straight weeks following WrestleMania, Shane has been given the “authority” to run things leading up to Payback.

WWE Teasing Shane McMahon Appearance For 'Monday Night RAW'?

Whether it was Vince challenging his son with full autonomy, or “due to overwhelming support on social media,” WWE has completely flipped the script on what they promised with Shane’s match against the Deadman. We might not have expected the Undertaker to appear on any RAWs after ‘Mania, but it stands to reason that Shane McMahon should have beaten The Phenom if they were going to book him as the man in charge for at least the following month.

Triple H has been weighing his options as far as balancing his roles as in-ring performer and WWE executive. Ratings continue to decline, which may force The Game into a revised role if and when he returns. He’d certainly continue to play the role of heel in a feud with Shane McMahon, and likewise if the rumors are true about Seth Rollins’ return and eventual targeting of his former boss in The Authority.

A Shane McMahon-Triple H match would be interesting. A Shane McMahon-Triple H match at SummerSlam with full control on the line would be even more interesting. But even if Shane brought back Rollins to serve as his proxy, things could certainly heat up and thrust Rollins right back in the main event scene where he belongs. Either way, it appears we’ll finally get some on-screen interaction between Hunter and Shane, culminating one way or another with the banishment of The Authority.

Who would you rather see Triple H face if he is to wrestle at SummerSlam: Seth Rollins or Shane McMahon?
