New Beyoncé ‘Lemonade’ Trailer Hints At Singer’s Possible Plans For HBO Special

Beyoncé’s Lemonade trailer gave anxious fans a taste of what to expect. Then, the extended trailer dropped and further left fans wondering what Beyoncé’s Lemonade project is all about. Beyoncé is playing the mystery angle, not uttering one peep about what she has planned. Fans will have to tune in to HBO on April 23 for the premiere of what could be a movie somehow associated with an upcoming album. It could also be something totally different. Perhaps she will continue the dialogue started with the release of “Formation,” and turn that into a full-length project.

When “Formation” was first performed at this year’s Super Bowl, it was quite a shocker. Beyoncé had a marching band and a legion of females in Black Panther gear, all dancing along. Beyoncé and company had taken on the modern cause and made Black Panther wear sultry and revealing. She performed “Formation” and then traded dance moves with Bruno Mars. The music video that arrived soon after gave a clearer picture about what sort of message “Formation” held. Lemonade could be the project to set the entire context for the messages that Beyoncé will be focusing on with her next album, and her career in general.

It’s hard to think Lemonade won’t have something to do with “Formation.” The last Beyoncé HBO project came out in 2013, titled Life Is But a Dream. That documentary took place during a pivotal moment in Beyoncé’s life, giving a behind the scenes look at her career and personal issues, but at the same time documenting her very first experiences with motherhood. If Lemonade will also be a projects that reveals some aspects of Beyoncé’s private life, she’ll have to dive a little deeper this time. The main criticism with Life Is But a Dream was that it didn’t give assurance of the truth, and you couldn’t quite be sure if you were watching a documentary or a staged drama.

Flavorwire recorded a quote by Beyoncé from the 2013 documentary, which reveals one of the problems fans have with the documentary as a whole.

“I always battle with how much I reveal about myself. How do I keep my humility and spirit? How do I continue to be generous to my fans and my craft? How do I stay current, but how do I stay soulful?”

It’s a question that most celebrities deal with. But if you are going to make a documentary about your personal life, then the whole point is to reveal those things that might make you appear vulnerable, things that people would ordinarily hide, if not for an HBO special that promises to reveal it all to the fans that make your career possible.

Besides music and TV, Beyoncé is hard at work promoting her new fashion label. Beyoncé’s Ivy Park joins an already-full arena of athleisure wear. Beyoncé is staring at success with Ivy Park where other celebrity fashion lines have failed. Many celebrities haven’t put in the necessary effort to ensure clothing that people like to wear, not just clothing with their name attached to it. But Beyoncé is showing entrepreneurial initiative with her business efforts, and is making sure the clothing satisfies the quality standards she expects.

The Formation World Tour will start just a few days after Lemonade premieres. The tour starts in Miami, and heads across the southern United States at the start. It makes sense if you consider the images in the “Formation” music video. So, Lemonade might serve as promotion for the tour. It is hard to predict Beyoncé. Lemonade could just as well be a visual album project that is first broadcast on HBO before being made available for consumers. As the Independent reports, back when Beyoncé released her self-titled album, she made a video for every song. Lemonade could be something along those lines.
