3:10p.m. Update — A press conference is expected from the CSPD momentarily to give more information about the Texas A&M shooting.

Texas A&M has reported a shooting near campus involving several law enforcement officers. Police have taken a man into custody in connection with the shooting after “multiple people” were shot near the University.

CNN reports that Rhonda Seaton of the College Station Police Department confirmed law enforcement officers were among the shooting victims, though she did not have information on how many people were shot, or what their conditions are.

The suspected gunman is now in custody, according to Seaton, after the shooting occurred just one block away from campus. USA Today reports that the university’s original report on their website read:

“Avoid Area. CSPD reports an active shooter in the area immediately southeast of the intersection of Welborn Rd and George Bush Drive. Please avoid the area. Residents in the immediate area need to remain inside their residence.”

At least two people have been injured, and a police scanner reportedly said that at least two officers have been injured, although that information has not yet been confirmed. The suspect allegedly opened fire from a house near campus, with more than one automatic weapon. They were apprehended about 15 minutes after the initial alert was sent, around 12:44 CT.

The university’s warning includes the area near the campus’s football stadium, Kyle Field and, while the shooter is in custody now, police are warning people to stay away from the area for the time being. After the university’s original “Code Maroon” alert, they announced, “Update on active shooter in College Station: The location of the active shooter is in the 200 block of Fidelity Dr. Stay away from the area. 12:38 PM.” The latest update reads:

“Update on active shooter: CSPD reports that the shooter is in custody. Continue to avoid the area. 12:44 PM.
