Amy Schumer: Is She Lying About Her Size?

Amy Schumer did not like it when Glamour magazine included her in the “plus-size” issue. In her response, she started her sentence with “I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size,” but clearly, Schumer doesn’t want to be one. “Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8.” Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus size,” she wrote. “What are your thoughts? Mine are not cool glamour not glamorous.”

Katie Hopkins, for the Daily Mail, wrote a scathing critique of Amy Schumer’s statement. She goes on to say that making statements like that on Twitter makes it sound like she really does care what people think about her body type.

“In this society — which we have built on saying what people want to hear and manipulating the truth to avoid giving offense when people are desperate to take it — we have lost the beautiful art of honesty.”

The article goes on to say, “Listen, Amy. You might not have given permission for anyone to call you plus-size. But you did open up your life to the world, so the permission was tacitly implied. If you put yourself out there, expect to hear the truth. If you don’t like it, stay home and sit on your sofa.” That’s right Katie Hopkins wasn’t intending to be nice in her critique.

It seemed like the readers agreed with Katie, too, and said that Amy Schumer is lying about her size. One reader comment said it all.

“First of all Amy is lying about her size — which is not exactly a good female positive role model type thing to do. Pretend you are a different size (as everyone is apparently blind), then claim you are proud to be plus size but just don’t call you it as you are lying about being thinner than you are. Secondly, main reason came here is DM (Daily Mail) really, did this troll of a woman not even take sick leave — I had secretly hoped she had been extinguished in the operating room.”

Another one said: “Amy body shamed her fellow actresses. Hypocrite in my opinion.” While several say that Amy is lying about her size, there is another stream of thought that believes Amy could have handled it better.

CNN’s opinion piece went on to cite the example of Iskra Lawrence who was called “fat” on social media. Iska’s Instagram post showed her eating chips in slo-mo. She posted the caption: “I’m sorry I couldn’t help myself…This is for anyone who has ever been called FAT. Thanks for the inspirational words on a recent pic @zseanzbrown????????

“Fat cow. It’s only cus every F****r on this planet is obese that that’s the norm… Plus-size models? give me a F*****g breaking. Everyone needs to stop eating McDonald’s, the NHS is f****d because of people like her eating too many bags of crisps.”

“Opinions are like a***holes – everyone’s got one???? thanks to the dream team for making this happen at work today.”

It seems like that would have shut her critics up.

Salonhas reported that Jennifer Lawrence is saying that she is normal weight but is considered “curvy.” She went on to say that people compliment on her “normal body,” but she has confessed that she didn’t feel like she had a “normal body” given that she works harder than normal to stay in shape. It’s time people stopped talking about women’s weight.

Do you think Amy Schumer may be lying about her size? Looking at how Iska handled the controversy, do you think she could have handled the controversy better?
