It seemed that all was lost and the only major character not returning to the reboot of Gilmore Girls was Melissa McCarthy as Sookie, but now a miracle has happened, and Melissa McCarthy is back. McCarthy announced her return to Gilmore Girls on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and said that the deal had just been inked hours before the show.
According to Inquisitr, Melissa McCarthy said that she was originally not invited to take part in the Gilmore Girls reboot for Netflix. When she heard that everyone else was invited, she was a bit perplexed. Gilmore Girls founder, Amy Sherman-Palladino assumed that McCarthy would be too busy, as her career had taken off since Gilmore Girls. By the time Sherman-Palladino heard that McCarthy was interested, she approached McCarthy’s people, and it was too late.
Now, room has been made in everyone’s schedules, and McCarthy is a go for Gilmore Girls.
Us Magazine announced that Stars Hollow’s favorite chef is back on Gilmore Girls for the reboot on Netflix, as Melissa McCarthy will be returning. McCarthy admitted that the scheduling was difficult, but she really wanted to be back on Gilmore Girls, even if it was just for one episode. McCarthy excitedly told Ellen DeGeneres just an hour or so after the deal was completed.
“…and there was a whole thing. And then I was gonna be out of the country and blah, blah, blah. And literally about an hour and half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go back and do it, and I am so excited. And they are gonna be amazing.”
McCarthy credited Amy Sherman-Palladino for squeezing her into the Gilmore Girls reboot, and said she is very excited. There is still no confirmation as to how many of the four episodes McCarthy will do.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that it is time to fire up the ovens in Stars Hollow, because Melissa McCarthy is coming back to Gilmore Girls. Melissa McCarthy really started her career as Sookie, Lorelai Gilmore’s partner in an Inn for Gilmore Girls. McCarthy explained that she can’t wait to get back into her chef’s garb, stirring in her pots and pans, and being surrounded by food in the kitchen.
Many fans were vocal in saying that Gilmore Girls wouldn’t be Gilmore Girls for them if Melissa McCarthy didn’t reprise her role as Sookie. The rest of the Inn staff was already returning, as was Jackson, Sookie’s husband. McCarthy as Sookie would be sorely missed. Now fans, and the rest of the cast, can relax because the whole cast of Gilmore Girls has finally gotten back together.
Entertainment Weekly has announced that finally, Sookie is coming back to Stars Hollow and Gilmore Girls on Netflix. McCarthy said that since the reunion of Gilmore Girls was announced, everywhere she goes, people have asked her if she will be returning as Sookie. She said she was puzzled as to why she hadn’t been asked to return, but then she heard that Amy Sherman-Palladino had thought she would be too busy.
After Melissa McCarthy made it clear that she would love to play Sookie again on Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino publicly said that McCarthy’s people should contact her, because of course she would love to have her back, even just for a day of shooting.
The whole thing with Sookie and Gilmore Girls seemed like a game of telephone gone wrong, until McCarthy announced on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that she would be back on the Netflix version of Gilmore Girls, playing Sookie once again.
