Jennifer Lawrence Wants To Create A ‘New Normal’ In Her Own Image

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most outspoken actresses in Hollywood, but is she saying too much? It seems Lawrence is alienating other actresses and annoying the public in general with her comments on feminism and gender equality. It isn’t so much that Jennifer is wrong, but it seems to be more that the Hunger Games actress is holding herself up as an example of the millions of women who really do suffer discrimination and shaming. Even as Lawrence tries to explain her position, she only serves to make matters worse. Now, Lawrence is speaking her thoughts on the ideal body type.

Ms. Lawrence may have a point, when she suggests that the fascination our society has with the skinny body type has resulted in that particular physique becoming the average, ideal type of body for which women are taught to strive. She adds that, as a result, the actual healthy ideal for women is now viewed as an overweight body type.

“I would like us to make a new normal body type,” Lawrence said. “Everybody says: ‘We love that there is somebody with a normal body!’ And I’m like: ‘I don’t feel like I have a normal body.’ I do Pilates every day. I eat, but I work out a lot more than a normal person.”

Jennifer suggests that society needs to “up the ante” in their view of what is healthy and desirable. The X-Men: Apocalypse actress says she doesn’t want to be seen as fat anymore than she wants to be regarded as the ideal. Lawrence suggests that the real perfect body image would be somewhere in the middle. Jennifer says a woman of normal weight shouldn’t be considered curvy.

X-Men: Apocalypse Star Jennifer Lawrence Responds To Criticism Over Her Comments On Wage Disparity

Months ago, Jennifer participated in a discussion on her girlfriend Lena Dunham’s Lenny newsletter in which she detailed her thoughts on feminism as it relates to gender equality in the workplace. Discussing her thoughts on equal pay for women, Ms. Lawrence held herself up as an example in the way that she had not received the same pay as some of her male co-stars, generating a storm of criticism from both sides of the issue. Lawrence now says that she never expected her commentary to blow up in the way that it has and that she felt buried under an avalanche of negative reactions, so that the positive comments and responses were lost on her.

Among Lawrence’s critics is fellow actor and comedian Ricky Gervais, who remarked at the Golden Globes that millions of nurses and factory workers would certainly support the Hunger Games actress, marching for her right to earn even more millions.

“How the h— can a 25-year-old live on $52 million,” posed Gervais in his own public commentary.

In response, Jennifer now says that she has been aware of the “poor little rich girl” jokes, but she adds that her message was misconstrued. Lawrence acknowledges that she’s been very fortunate to have had such a successful and profitable film career. She says that, when she speaks for equal pay and equal opportunities for women, she’s speaking for the less fortunate, not for herself.

“When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with d***s, I didn’t get mad at Sony,” Jennifer Lawrence wrote in her Lenny essay. “I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early. I didn’t want to keep fighting over millions of dollars that, frankly, due to two franchises, I don’t need.”

One can certainly see how the negotiating skills possessed by Jennifer Lawrence would be relevant to women working in factories, grocery stores, and offices across America.
