Diddy On ‘American Idol’: Rap Mogul Could Become Newest Judge

Diddy could be on American Idol next year as the hit show’s carousel of judge continues to spin.

Fox has reportedly asked Diddy, also known as Sean Combs, to become the newest judge of American Idol, The Huffington Post reported. While the Diddy on American Idol rumor hasn’t been confirmed and the rapper has yet to issue a statement about it, the move would fit within Fox’s plans to fill out a new slate of judges for the show. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler both left the show following the most recent season.

American Idol producers already found a replacement for Lopez, tapping singer Mariah Carey for the role, but have yet to fill the vacancy left by Tyler’s departure. If Diddy is on American Idol, the rap mogul isn’t worrying too much over his role. Diddy is reportedly throwing an epic “white party” this week at his private villa in Ibiza, the New York Post reported.

Idol, which returns to Fox in February 2013, has only one official judge right now — Carey. The singer said she is excited to start her new role, even if the judge’s panel has yet to be completely filled out.

“I’m so excited to be joining Idol,” Carey told reporters via phone at the Television Critic’s Association Summer Press Tour. “I wanted to be there today and I wish I could’ve been there myself to tell you … It happened really quickly. I can’t wait to get started in a couple months. “

Other music stars are rumored to join Diddy on American Idol. Nick Jonas is reportedly in the running to become a judge as is Pharrell Williams.
