Cheers and Veronica’s Closet star Kirstie Alley has become the latest entrant in the growing list of celebrities who endorsed Donald Trump as the next president of the United Sates, reports CBS News .

Alley, 65, voiced her “formal endorsement” of the Republican frontrunner on Friday night via Twitter. In the same tweet, she also praised former New York mayor and 2008 presidential candidate Rudy Guiliani, who has endorsed her presidential choice earlier this week.

HELLO BOYS! this is my formal endorsement of @realDonaldTrump & I’m a woman! (last I checked) And Rudy, U R amazing! https://t.co/0IrenUh8fa

Unsurprisingly, all her followers were not happy with the communiqué, and she had to face a tweet storm, which she handled like the comedian she is. All night and into Saturday morning, Kirstie debated with followers who admonished her decision to endorse Trump.

Thanks Vicki! I’ve always considered myself a dumb cheap bimbo so I appreciate your acknowledgement https://t.co/3M4K8bu2jQ

However, she could not continue her Twitter battle in this lighter vein for too long.

Go figure..In the last 12 hours I’ve gotten THOUSANDS of Hate tweets from team “Liberal peace & love” … ironic https://t.co/HrChPNLKbg

Alley’s admiration for the Manhattan business tycoon is not new. Earlier in January, Kirstie told FOX businessthat she wants someone to be president who will “rev us up and make us pay attention.”

“Donald Trump, whether you like him or don’t, he’s waking this country up.”

In September, Alley tweeted about Trump’s interview with CBS’ Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes.

Apart from the Emmy Award-winning actress, several other celebrities have expressed their wish to see Trump enter the White House as its occupant for the next four years. Jesse James, a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2009, voiced his support for Trump in a long Facebook post , where he said, “This guy is the Real Deal, and will Make America Great Again.”

Actor Stephen Baldwin, who, as Newsweek describes, “became one of Trump’s earliest vocal celebrity supporters during a CNN appearance in July,” says Trump would make a “great president” because he’s not a politician.

“I think he’s fantastic. I love him. I think he’d make a great president. He’s not a politician, and he doesn’t care what anybody thinks. And that’s why he’s surging in the polls.”

However, Baldwin, observes Newsweek , appeared to have no knowledge of Trump’s much-criticized proposal of “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

Former professional wrestler Terry Gene Bollea, aka Hulk Hogan , was asked by TMZ , “If you could have any presidential candidate in the ring with you, who would you be most excited to leg drop, or go against?” In reply he said that he wants to make America great again by running with Trump.

“I don’t want to be in the ring with any candidates. I want to be Trump’s running mate.”

Another remarkable celebrity who gets behind Trump is former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson , who told HuffPost Live, “He (Trump) should be president of the United States.”

“I would [endorse him], yeah. I like Trump.”

In February, singer Aaron Carter also tweeted his support for Donald Trump.

Another noteworthy endorsement for Trump comes from actor Scott Baio. The Charles in Charge and Happy Days actor explained his support for the GOP candidate on Fox News , saying he wants Trump to go into Washington and blow it up.”

“He speaks like I speak, he communicates with people very well. I want him, as any one person can do, to go into Washington and blow it up.”

Although it’s too early to say whether Trump can cash in on the celebrities’ support, his campaign is leaving no stone unturned to reap it. It’s worth noting here that Kirstie mentioned her gender in her endorsement tweet, considering recent polls show Trump’s negative ratings among women is off the charts, thanks to his controversial abortion remarks and statements toward notable female figures.
