Donald Faison Rumored To Play Dr. Gravity In ‘Kick-Ass 2’
Donald Faison, star of the hit television show Scrubs and co-star of the classic 90s comedy Clueless, is currently in talks to take a role in director Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, according to Cinema Blend. The film, a sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s 2009 comic book flick, is scheduled to start production next month. A release date for the highly-anticipated follow-up has not been set as of this writing.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Faison will likely tackle the role of the mysterious Dr. Gravity, a mild-mannered copy writer/would-be superhero who claims to have a weapon that can change the density of objects. In reality, it’s just a baseball bat.
The sequel, which just added veteran actor John Leguizamo as one of its villains, is shaping up quite nicely. Stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse will reprise their respective roles for the follow-up, which is being produced by Matthew Vaughn’s MARV Films. Rumor has it Nicolas Cage will return as Big Daddy, though just how much of a part he will ultimately play has yet to be revealed.
The script is reportedly based on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s mini-series Kick-Ass 2. Certain elements will be pulled from the comic book Hit Girl as well. The series is currently in the middle of its run.
X-Men: First Class filmmaker Matthew Vaughn’s $30 million actioner Kick Ass had a modest domestic run back in 2009, earning Lionsgate roughly $48 million during its theatrical jaunt. Presently, the film’s worldwide gross sits at just under $100 million. Although these figures pale in comparison with other superhero movies, the picture actually did pretty well for a violent, R-rated endeavor.
Donald Faison, meanwhile, returned to the small screen last year for TV Land’s The Exes. Additionally, Faison has also loaned his voice talents to Robot Chicken and the Tron: Uprising television program.
