Pratyusha Banerjee Suicide: Beautiful Indian Television Star Kills Herself

Pratyusha Banerjee, a popular television star from India, died earlier today in what is thought to be a suicide. The star, who gained nationwide acclaim for her portrayal of Anandi in the television serial Balika Vadhu, took the extreme step today evening after she reportedly had a verbal spat with her boyfriend, the Times of India reports.

Initial reports say Pratyusha committed suicide between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., local time. The exact circumstances of the incident is yet to be revealed. Pratyusha Banerjee was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling of her north Mumbai home and was rushed to the nearby Kokilaben Ambani Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon admission. Banerjee is survived by her mother and father. Pratyusha was in a publicized relationship with her beau Rahul Raj Singh who also worked in the television industry. The two were often seen together and were reportedly planning to settle down later this year. While it remains unclear if the relationship had anything to do with Pratyusha’s suicide, there are reports flying around which claim that the two had a spat and that Pratyusha was in depression after Rahul decided to call off their planned marriage and wanted to end the relationship.

Fans and celebrities across India reacted to the news of Pratyusha Banerjee’s death. The actress was also quite active on Instagram and many of her photographs have been filled with condolence messages.

Pratyusha Banerjee was born in 1991 and was just 24 years old when she died. Banerjee was offered the role of Anandi in 2010 after an audience poll selected her to play the character. She faced competition from two other newbie actresses for the role but managed to beat them due to her beauty and simplicity. All this when she was just 19 years old. She played the role of Anandi, replacing Avika Gor, the little girl who played the childhood character of Anandi. Within weeks of her portrayal as Anandi, Pratyusha became a household name and went on to become one of the most popular television stars in India.

Banerjee went on to play the character for three years after which she quit the show to move on to other projects. While her role in Balika Vadhu remains till date her most popular, she went on to act in other serials like Sasural Simar Ka, Hum Hai Na, and was about to be cast in another series titled Adhuri Kahaani Humari. After her role as the simple Anandi, she played several negative characters, displaying her versatility and talent. She was also a popular contestant in the Bigg Boss 7, the Indian version of Big Brother. Last year, she was also seen participating in another reality show called Power Couple where she was featured along with Rahul.

Earlier this year, Pratyusha and Rahul were in the news after she alleged that four persons, including a Mumbai police officer, molested her at her own residence. The complaint filed by her claimed that the men barged into her apartment and tried to intimidate her and added that the men only went away after she threatened police action. The allegation was denied by the police who claimed that the men were loan recovery agents who went in to check why Pratyusha had defaulted on her car loan.

A police investigation is currently underway to understand the circumstances that led young Pratyusha to take this drastic step.
