Chicago Man Shot During Facebook Live Stream Video [Graphic Video Warning]

A Chicago man was shot while on a Facebook live stream video. The unidentified man was standing on a city street in broad daylight when another man approached, aimed a gun, and fired multiple times.

The Chicago man in the live stream Facebook video was telling his online followers the owner of the store shown in the background needed to open up because he needed “somewhere to duck and hide for cover,” the New York Daily News reports. The man was standing in front of a convenience store located at 55th and Hoyne in the West Englewood neighborhood, according to a Fox 6 Now News report.

The Chicago shooting victim is a known gang member, according to police reports pertaining to the Facebook live stream video shooting that occurred on Thursday. The man is currently listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

The shooter has not yet been caught. He is believed to have been on foot when he approached the Chicago man in a White Sox baseball cap while he was filming the Facebook live stream video. The shooter reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle immediately after firing a barrage of bullets.

In the video that captured the attempted murder, the sound of gunfire is heard and a quick glimpse of the shooter becomes visible as the victim and the phone fall to the ground. According to both witness statement and the Facebook video, the shooter appeared to stand over the Chicago man and fired about 16 rounds into his body.

The identity of the Chicago shooting victim may now be known to the police, but his name has not yet been released to the public. A spokesman for the law enforcement department confirmed that a 31-year-old black male had been shot at the intersection where the Facebook live stream video was filmed around 4:48 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

So far this year, 135 murders have occurred in Chicago. A grand total of 727 people had been shot in the city as of March 30. Despite boasting some of the most stringent gun control laws in the nation, the city still has experienced some of the most bloody and brutal violence in the United States.

Gun control advocates and some local government and community leaders have argued that gun laws in the outlying areas allow guns to come into the city and spark the intense violence, which has been going on for many years in President Barack Obama’s adopted hometown. Second Amendment activists counter such views by noting that crime rates in cities and towns with less stringent gun laws and many concealed carry weapons permit (CCW) holders are exceedingly lower.

On the same day the Chicago man was shot while making a Facebook live stream video, nine more people were also shot, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago shootings include two fatalities: one was a 43-year-old woman and the other a 23-year-old man. The first three months of 2016 have reportedly been the bloodiest and most violent in the city since 1999.

During an interview with the Trace, 28-year-old local resident and gun violence activist Camiella Williams said she has lost a total of 23 loved ones to Chicago shootings, which is almost one family tragedy per year since Williams was born.

Why do you think Chicago is plagued by such a high level of gun violence?
