Megyn Kelly Gladly Highlights Donald Trump’s ‘Damage Control’ On ‘The Kelly File’

Donald Trump has been having some serious campaign issues recently, and Megyn Kelly was more than happy to point them out on her show Thursday evening.

“His campaign manager has been hit with a criminal charge after police say he touched a female reporter against her will…Then yesterday, Trump appeared to misstep badly by telling Chris Matthews in an MSNBC town hall that women who have abortions — if abortion is illegal — should be punished.”

Kelly added that Trump’s remarks about abortion were condemned universally by pro-choice and pro-life advocates. Even though Trump walked back those remarks, the damage had already been done.

To point out one example of Trump being damaged by his recent remarks, Kelly stressed a recent Wisconsin poll that said 42 percent of Republicans prefer Ted Cruz, while 32 percent approve of Trump. She also noted how Trump’s comments playedinto Hillary Clinton’s camp producing an ad.

Megyn Kelly then had Katrina Pierson on her show, who is Trump’s campaign spokesperson.

“When you are a political candidate for eight months, you are speaking off the cuff. One of Mr. Trump’s appeals is that he’s not a scripted politician,” Pierson claimed.

Pierson added that the media claimed Trump called for a ban on abortions, which she said wasn’t true. She added that Trump clarified that he doesn’t want women to be punished for having an illegal abortion. Kelly argued that this gives in to his critics, who say Trump speaks without thinking the issues through.

“His critics are going to say anything at this point. There is a full-blown anti-Trump movement going on…Everyone is out to stop Trump from winning the nomination,” Pierson argued.

Megyn Kelly then brought up the point that Donald Trump has a 73 percent unfavorable rating among women. She said that in 2012, Mitt Romney had a 51 percent unfavorable rating among women and lost the election, only receiving 44 percent of female votes. Pierson point blank told Kelly that Trump is not Romney. Pierson said that at this point in time, Donald Trump has more votes than Romney had at this stage of the election process. She also told Megyn Kelly that at this point in time, Ronald Reagan was 23 points behind Donald Trump.

Some may accuse Megyn Kelly of having an agenda, but she certainly isn’t the only right-leaning person who thinks Trump can cause more harm than good. As the New York Times points out, some in the G.O.P. fear Trump is damaging their party.

“Republicans who once worried that Mr. Trump might gain overwhelming momentum in the primaries are now becoming preoccupied with a different grim prospect: that Mr. Trump might become a kind of zombie candidate — damaged beyond the point of repair, but too late for any of his rivals to stop him.”

The article notes that Republicans could prevent Trump’s nomination, but this could also cause a lot of other problems. Even on many right-wing oriented Facebook feeds, there are conservatives — some who originally supported Donald Trump — wondering if he is damaging the future of their party.
