Jennifer Lawrence Is ‘Dying To Come Back’ To ‘X-Men’: Is The Mystique Movie Confirmed?

Jennifer Lawrence’s X-Men film future is apparently okay with her. She has recently stated that she’s “dying to come back” to the franchise, meaning that if Fox Studios wants to continue past Apocalypse, she’s up for the chance to reprise the role more than Rebecca Romijn did.

This could also mean that Fox’s plans to make a Mystique spin-off film are that much closer to being put in motion. As long as they pay her same same as her male counterparts, it doesn’t seem likely she’ll say no.

X-Men star Jennifer Lawrence plays a much more prominent character in X-Men: Apocalypse than she did back in First Class, where we were introduced to a younger Mystique, replacing Romijn with a fresh face. She has certainly seen her star rise in recent years, as she was cast in the franchise based on the young adult book series, The Hunger Games, as the main protagonist Katniss Everdeen. Now Jennifer is among the biggest stars of our time, even using her star power to fight for equal pay between genders in Hollywood.

The battle began when Lawrence realized she had been paid only a fraction of what her male costars, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper, had in American Hustle. She posted an open letter on social media, telling the public about the wage gap, and other women in Hollywood, as well as in politics, responded with encouragement. Jennifer even received the social media “pat on the back” by Hillary Clinton, who had been readying for a long battle with Bernie Sanders for the nomination for the Democratic nomination to be the President of the United States.

This may have worked to Hillary’s advantage, as she is now the alleged main choice for feminist voters.

It is unknown how long Jennifer Lawrence plans on reprising the shapeshifting superhero role, but Gizmodo claims it is probably due to the “proverbial dump truck full of cash dumped” on her estate. Fox Studios apparently plans on continuing the franchise as long as possible, even though the X-Men ensemble films themselves may be done in Apocalypse. They may be proceeding with spin-offs such as Old Man Logan, Mystique, Gambit, and sequels to the smash hit, Deadpool.

If successful, Fox Studios may have gotten away with doing the exact opposite of Marvel, keeping ensemble films going and eventually branching off with individual characters. With Jennifer Lawrence’s alleged enthusiasm toward doing more X-Men movies, it seems Mystique is guaranteed. “I am dying to come back. I love these movies, I love being in them. I love ensemble movies because it’s not on anyone’s shoulders.”

Others involved with X-Men: Apocalypse have already expressed their desire to move on, including the man who brought the franchise back from its Wolverine origin film low, Bryan Singer. The upcoming ensemble film marks the end of a three-film contract for all of the main actors in the series, including James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, and Michael Fassbender.

ScreenCrush believes that Lawrence may simply be giving Fox a polite answer and really has no desire to return to the role of the practically naked blue shapeshifter. This follows what Jennifer told MTV a year ago, that X-Men: Apocalypse would be her last movie in the franchise.

It may be that Jennifer Lawrence changed her mind and wouldn’t mind starring as Mystique at least once more.
