‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Justin Hartley Talks About Playing The Evil Adam Newman And Squashes Rumors Of His Exit

It’s been only 18 months since Justin Hartley wowed The Young and the Restless fans with his portrayal of the iconic role of Adam Newman. The audience was sure they could never accept anyone in the position but Michael Muhney; however, Hartley impressed everyone in the role. Last year, the fans were terrified they might lose the handsome star after it came out he was being considered for the role in the Macgyver Reboot. It turns out; he was not cast in the role, and Hartley has squashed any rumor of his exit in an epic way. According to Justin, Adam Newman is the best character on TV, period.

Michael Fairman sat down with Justin, and he explained that coming back to daytime was not an easy choice because he had a pretty successful career in primetime television (Mistresses, Revenge and Smallville). When he first read the script for Adam, he knew that it was the part he wanted, and he was perfect for the part. Adam is complicated, yet simple. Justin knew he could make the role his own if CBS would just give him a fair shot.

“I don’t think he (Adam) thinks he is a bad boy. Adam is the smartest guy in the room … so he thinks. Something always implodes on him, and it’s usually brought on by himself. He’s a lover and a fighter—skewed 60/40 one way or another at any given time. He leads with his heart, his fist and his brain.”

Justin noted that his character is never short of drama. In the short 18 months in the role, Adam has assumed another identity, launched a horrific computer virus, been kidnapped, and barely escaped a hefty prison sentence.

“At the risk of making my co-stars angry, I think Adam is the best role on television right now. On paper, Adam is a perfect character; my plan was to shift it to where I wanted it. A good role is a good role—I don’t care if it’s on a stage, on daytime or primetime, it doesn’t matter. It’s the best job I have ever had. I’m very happy.”

Justin Hartley seems to be very happy with his position and doesn’t look like he’s planning to leave the show. Watch! reported that Justin believes that Adam Newman is the best role on television, period — daytime and primetime. Eighteen months ago, Hartley debuted as Adam, and the fans were hesitant that he could pull off the part. Hartley had big shoes to fill and had so much work ahead of him as he moved to be accepted by Genoa City. Remember that before he returned, Adam Newman was public enemy number one!

Hartley’s hard work is paying off as he made the part of Adam all his own. Just last week, it was announced that he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award, and many people feel he will likely win. Not quite two years after learning Adam Newman would be recast and resurrected, it’s hard to remember anyone else in the role. The Young and the Restless fans hope that Justin Hartley sticks around as Adam for years to come.

The Young and the Restless fans, are you happy that Justin Hartley will not be leaving the role of Adam? Do you think he could take over the patriarch position on the show, after Victor’s character leaves (years down the road)?
