‘Game Of Thrones’ Spoilers: New Photos, Trailers Prepare Fans For Season 6

Game of Thrones is scheduled to return for Season 6 on April 24, 2016, and HBO released pictures of the upcoming season to get fans primed for the show’s return.

As Bustle reports, the pictures were shared through Entertainment Weekly and featured some teasers as to what can be expected from Game of Thrones. In one of the pictures Arya, the daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark, appears to be blind, which follows her character’s journey from the books.

As for Arya’s brother, Bran is on his own quest beyond the wall in the north. The Game of Thrones images show that Bran will meet a new character.

Across the water, Tyrion and Varys continue to team up in their scheming ways while Daenerys is looking none too pleased after her capture at the end of Season 5.

While many characters from Game of Thrones were featured in the promotion, Jon Snow was noticeably absent. His return has been confirmed for Season 6, but in what capacity remains a mystery after being brutally stabbed at the end of Game of Thrones last season.

In addition to the new promo pictures, HBO also released a pair of teaser videos for Season 6 of Game of Thrones. The new footage is set to a rendition of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Games,” which is fitting for a show where people’s allegiances can shift quickly and you never quite know who to trust.

While there is little action in the teaser, Ser Davos Seaworth, played by Liam Cunningham, makes a big production about unsheathing his sword to fight, possibly over the fate of Jon Snow’s body. Liam Cunningham spoke to the Wall Street Journal about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones but was characteristically vague about what will happen. His overall message is that “there are going to be many [big moments] and they’re from the get-go, I guarantee it.”

Ser Davos will have more interactions with priestess Melisandre, Liam Cunningham confirmed in the interview.

“They’re brought together by circumstance even though they’re enemies,” the actor said.

The second and most recent trailer to come out appears ready to air this weekend during the NCAA Tournament Final Four contests. This trailer does include numerous action scenes, suggesting that a great battle will occur this season.

While anything released regarding Season 6 of Game of Thrones has been maddeningly cryptic thus far, it should really come as no surprise, as the creators of Game of Thrones have been notoriously tight-lipped about any spoilers.

However, Game of Thrones creator David Benioff is positive that Season 6 will be the best yet. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he excitedly admitted that the season is jam-packed with strong stories in all 10 episodes.

“This season there is not a weak episode. We had great directors who knew what they were doing, paired with excellent [directors of photography]. We thought at the script stage it might be our strongest season.”

This was confirmed for David Benioff when he watched the almost final cuts of all 10 episodes for Season 6 of Game of Thrones.

“The episodes came in better than we hoped… That’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done.”

Game of Thrones has been adapted from George R.R. Martin’s series A Song of Ice and Fire, and while the first book in the series was written in 1996, Martin has been slow to finish the series. As a result, Season 6 of Game of Thrones will begin to outpace the latest book in the series. Fans of the novel series have been worried about potential spoilers, but creator David Benioff wanted to put them at ease.

“So much of what we’re doing diverges from the books at this point. People are going to be very surprised when they read the books after the show. They’re quite divergent in so many respects for the remainder of the show.”

Other information fans of Game of Thrones have discovered in the months leading up to Season 6 includes a character returning to the show during the 10-episode run. If the season lives up to its hype, Game of Thrones could break the records it amassed at the 2015 Emmy Awards.
