HBO has released a new teaser for the much-anticipated return of Game of Thrones. It’s short, but it does provide some new footage that provides a couple of new spoilers. Let’s jump in, shall we?
Spoilers begin now. Stop here and now if you don’t wish to read spoilers.
Early screening copies of Game of Thrones Season 6 will be provided to no one, absolutely no one. HBO told us so several weeks ago. This was to minimize spoilers and to keep their secrets just that, secrets. And no doubt their no-spoilers policy for Game of Thrones was an attempt to keep the hot discussions around whether or not our beloved Jon Snow is alive going. I mean, really, they have done their fair share of encouraging Jon Snow speculation, the release of the Game of Thrones Season 6 poster featuring his face was a big one. But there will be much more going on in Game of Thrones Season 6.
We’ve been promised that this will be the best season ever for Game of Thrones. We’ve been promised an epic battle scene like nothing we’ve ever seen before. And spoilers have leaked here and there, as Game of Thrones actors talk about what we can expect in the new episodes.
Now, we have a new Game of Thrones teaser from HBO. It has new footage that provides new spoilers. And they’re good. Great things do sometimes come in small packages. Entertainment Weekly talked about the new teaser. Take a look.
Did you catch all the new Game of Thrones footage that was packed into that short teaser? Did you catch the spoilers? Here’s what we learned from this new teaser.
The new Game of Thrones teaser begins with a shot of Daenerys with a Dothraki warrior on either side of her. This doesn’t look so good, except that the look on our heroine’s is hopeful and aimed skyward. Then later a shot of Drogon flying over the Dothraki khalasar, possibly what Daeny was looking at that gave her hope. A Game of Thrones spoiler telling us that Drogon will rescue his mother?
The second shot in the Game of Thrones March Madness teaser is one of Tyrion Lannister, Missandei, and someone else who may be Grey Worm. They are in Mereen’s throne room in the absence of the Dragon Mother. A couple of scenes later in the Game of Thrones teaser, we see Tyrion again, looking up in the night sky, terrified. Of the other two dragons who are chained up under Mereen, perhaps?
Game of Thrones‘ Jaime Lannister is back in the saddle and looking rather comfortable and confident. More interesting is that he is backed by lots of Lannister soldiers. Is this scene just before the epic battle scene we’ve been promised?
There has been much talk that one of the Game of Thrones mysteries will be solved this season — the true parentage of Jon Snow. There have been hints throughout the seasons that he is not the son of a woman with whom Ned Stark had an affair, but rather of — spoiler alert! — Ned’s sister. Game of Thrones creators have teased this a bit with previously released scenes that show what is believed to be a flashback to a battle in which Ned Stark engaged near the Tower of Joy just before promising his sister that he would care for her son as his own — Jon Snow. The Game of Thrones March Madness teaser has another shot of that battle.
We also see who appears to be the giant Wun Wun busting through a door. To someone’s rescue?
We see a still-blind Arya and then, to end the Game of Thrones teaser, we have a shot of the Night King grabbing an upright Bran’s arm. What is Bran up to with the Three-Eyed Raven, and what will the Night King do?
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 24.
