Cynthia Bailey Divorce? ‘RHOA’ Star Separates From Peter Thomas

Cynthia Bailey of Real Housewives of Atlanta has separated from husband Peter Thomas, according to a report from TMZ. He has moved out of their Atlanta home and is blaming RHOA for the troubles he and Cynthia are facing in their five-year marriage. The two are no longer even living in the same state. Bailey remains in Georgia while her husband has taken up residence in their Charlotte, North Carolina, home. Cynthia’s marriage has been going through a difficult period for months now, and her husband says that the cameras from RHOA are so intrusive that it makes it difficult to work on their marriage, especially because the show has largely focused on their issues recently.

Forty-eight-year-old Cynthia Bailey appeared recently on Reality Checked with Amy Phillips on Andy’s Sirius XM channel, Radio Andy, and commented on her marriage. According to E! Online, Bailey had this to say.

“I will say that Peter are not in a great place right now. Honestly, I don’t know what’s going to happen with us right now, we’re still trying to figure it out. But, you know, it’s complicated… We’re the only couple on The Real Housewives of Atlanta that actually was married on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. We’ve never been married outside of the show, and I don’t think that it’s helped us a lot…Maybe if we were married three years before we went on the show, that would have been better. I just have nothing to compare my marriage to outside of the show, and you know it’s just been difficult—I mean, the wedding was difficult, everything about our marriage has been difficult.”

Promos for the next season of RHOA hint that Peter may have cheated on Cynthia, including a scene with a cell phone video in which he was touching another woman inappropriately at a night club. Bailey has indicated she doesn’t believe that’s the case. Last season ended on a high note for Cynthia and her husband, with the two of them vacationing in Jamaica. Apparently, developments that drove Peter to move away from the house he shared with Bailey happened during the break from the show.

A particularly difficult scene to watch on Season 8 of RHOA was when Peter asked Cynthia when she stopped loving him. There was no doubt that there were serious problems at that point. Bailey talked to Entertainment Tonight about that scene and had this to say.

“I wasn’t prepared for that question, ’cause I didn’t know the answer. You know, I just went into it to break up… it’s exhausting. It’s exhausting in real life, and it’s definitely exhausting to watch it play out on TV… I’m a lover of love… You know, I am the woman that will leave New York City and relocate with her child and nanny to Atlanta for love, OK? So, with that said, I think I get to be that same girl who can say, ‘You know, I think it’s time for me to pack up my tent — my love tent — and move somewhere else now’… I just don’t feel that same peace and happiness that I was feeling, you know, when we started this journey.”

Cynthia Bailey says that she and Peter have not had therapy to try to work through their issues. Bailey also indicated that she isn’t sure they will. The reason? He owns a restaurant in Charlotte, and with him living there now and Cynthia remaining in Atlanta, the logistics of arranging and attending couples therapy would pose a problem. Bailey is also considering a move to Los Angeles to pursue her long-time interest in acting, which would make it even more difficult.
