‘The Wolverine’ Starts Filming, First Pics Of Hugh Jackman Go Viral [Photos]

After a troubling development period, Hugh Jackman’s X-Men: Origins follow-up The Wolverine has finally started filming in Australia. The very first photos from the set have hit the Internet, giving fans a bit to speculate on regarding the upcoming film.

The photos show an extra-scruffy Jesus-looking Hugh Jackman on a set that’s been mocked up to look like a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp on a secluded beach in Kurnell (a Sydney suburb). This scene is apparently the champagne-bottle-breaker of the film, kicking-off production on the almost-stalled superhero blockbuster.

The second photo shows Jackman looking like the Wolverine character we’re all familiar with, running shirtless with a phalanx of extras. Thankfully, it looks as though he’s ditched the feathered hair of X-Men: Origins and the we’re-not-sure-what of the X-Men Trilogy that made him a Hollywood star. Why does it take four movies to finally get the hair right? I don’t know, but there you have it (nerd note: his hair looks similar to that of his cameo appearance in X-Men: First Class which marked his 5th appearance as Wolverine, but since his hair in that scene was not so bad, we did not count it).

Jackman told NY Daily last year that he eats 6,000 calories per day, packing on 30 pounds of muscle every time he re-dons the claws. He’s been waiting a long time to get back into his role as “Wolverine,” and seems thrilled to be back in the swing of things.

The Wolverine is primarily set in Japan, seeing a listless Logan’s training alongside a samurai warrior. It will be directed by James Mangold, and co-stars Will Yun Lee as the antagonist, Silver Samurai, and Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada, according to IMDb.

And now here are the photos of Hugh Jackman on the set of The Wolverine. What do you think?
