‘Game Of Thrones’ To Kill Off Sansa Stark In Season 6? Yes, If Sophie Turner Has Her Way

With the sixth season of Game of Thrones fast approaching, there are many characters whose fates are still up in the air. Although many fans suspected that Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) survived her jump from Winterfell’s walls at the end of last season, there is a possibility that the character will meet her end in the coming season. If Turner had her choice in the matter, her character would die sooner rather than later.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Turner admitted that she doesn’t want her character to remain alive when the series is over. Instead, she would opt for a more glorious death for Sansa.

“I don’t want to survive,” Turner revealed to the outlet. “If you’re on Game of Thrones and you don’t have a cool death scene, then what’s the point?”

Sansa hasn’t had the easiest road so far on the hit show. Along with facing down the evilness that was Joffrey Baratheon, Sansa was forced to marry Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) before being trapped in a marriage with the psychotic Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). All the while, Sansa witnessed the beheading of her father and lived through the deaths of her brother and mother.

With Sansa’s story appearing to improve after her successful escape from Ramsay, Mashable is reporting that the coming season will see a drastic change for Sansa. So far, Sansa has largely followed what others have directed her to do. However, the season will feature a more mature Sansa who is ready to take control of her life. Hopefully, this includes knocking some sense into Theon.

“This season is about her [Sansa] taking charge and being a leader, rather than just like a pawn in someone else’s game,” Turner shared. “This is a big season for her. She’s really going to thrive this season.”

In addition to the developments with her own character, Turner also revealed that the new season of Game of Thrones will bring some of the main characters back together again. Furthermore, Turner teased that fans are in for one of the best seasons to date as the series ventures into unknown territory for the first time.

“There are huge shocks this season,” she stated. “This, in my opinion — and I say it every season but I actually mean it this time — this is the best season yet. It’s really going to blow people’s minds and fans are going to be very happy.”

Exactly what that means is yet to be seen, though fans can only hope that the Boltons will get what they deserve.

Although it might sound as though Turner is preparing for her character’s demise, the Chicago Tribune is reporting otherwise. Apparently, Turner recently let slip that her character is safe in the coming season.

“I was flicking through and I’m like, ‘death, death, death… OK, I’m good for this season,'” Turner shared during a red carpet appearance as the Oscars.

For now, it appears like Sansa is safe. However, it will be interesting to see how her character develops in the new season. In fact, some fans have speculated that Sansa is pregnant and might be the one who renders justice to House Bolton on behalf of House Stark.

At the same time, the sixth season is expected to feature a massive battle, which may or may not include a few of the Stark children. Of course, fans can only hope that this means that Jon Snow will be resurrected, though there is a chance that Sansa, Bran, and Arya might meet up again during the battle for the north.

The sixth season of Game of Thrones is scheduled to premiere on April 24 on HBO.
