NFL Rumors: New York Jets No Longer Pursuing Colin Kaepernick

NFL rumors have been swirling around Colin Kaepernick. The former second-round draft pick doesn’t want to play for the San Francisco 49ers any more, but his options are diminishing by the minute. First, the Cleveland Browns took themselves out of play by signing Robert Grifin III. According to NFL.com, the New York Jets are also no longer interested in trading for Kaepernick. The Denver Broncos might be his last option in the National Football League.

The deteriorating relationship between Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers is no secret to anyone that watches the NFL. It’s been one of the biggest stories in football for the past year. Shortly after signing a $114 million contract with the Niners, Kaepernick has gotten to the point where he wants out. He feels disrespected by San Francisco after the team lost faith in him and benched him in favor of Blaine Gabbert. Colin wants to be traded to another team in the National Football League.

The New York Jets are learning what it’s like to go from being happy with a quarterback to seeing him seeking a new home in the NFL. Last season, Ryan Fitzpatrick provided stability at the position and had himself a fantastic year. It’s not a coincidence that the Jets offense thrived underneath the veteran quarterback. Wanting to be fiscally responsible, New York is hesitant to sign Fitzpatrick to a massive deal. The 33-year-old feels disrespected and is no longer opposed to finding a new home in the National Football League.

While there is discord between the New York Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick, the two sides are still willing to meet at the negotiations table to see if a compromise can be reached. The Jets would love to have the veteran leading the way while they search for their quarterback of the future. Fitzpatrick would love to be in charge of an offense that enabled him to put up big numbers.

For whatever reasons, the New York Jets are no longer interested in acquiring Colin Kaepernick from the San Francisco 49ers in a trade. Even with things unsettled with Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets aren’t willing to pay the price that the Niners have set. New York might know that San Francisco has their backs to the wall, so they’re going to see who can wait it out longer.

One of the bits of leverage that the San Francisco 49ers have on the New York Jets is the fact that the Denver Broncos have not closed the door on acquiring Colin Kaepernick. Their best option at quarterback right now is Mark Sanchez. Sanchez can be an adequate quarterback, but a team that is coming off of a Super Bowl victory might want something more than that, which is what Kaepernick is.

The New York Jets are playing a dangerous game by closing the door on a Colin Kaepernick trade. If Ryan Fitzpatrick gets frustrated and signs a deal with another NFL team just to get away, then the Jets aren’t left with a ton of options. Geno Smith is still under contract, but very few people in the organization actually believe in him enough to make him the top option at quarterback next season.

Colin Kaepernick needs a new NFL team. The New York Jets need a starting quarterback. It’s a mystery why the two sides aren’t more determined to form a marriage. Then again, there’s much that the public doesn’t know about the situation, so it might all make sense before the next season starts. For now, though, Kaepernick will not be joining the Jets.
