Erika Girardi’s Marriage Questioned: Is She Subservient To Her Husband?

Erika Girardi joined The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills this season, and many were quick to judge her before she had a chance to share her story. Erika is married to Tom Girardi, a lawyer who is 32 years older than Erika. Many people quickly assumed that she was a gold digger who only married him for money. However, Erika and Tom have actually been married for 15 years, which was a shocker for many. Tom hasn’t been a big part of the show, but when he is, he does tend to speak down to Erika.

According to a new Bravo report, Erika Girardi is now addressing some concerns about her marriage. On The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika tends to hold back when it comes to her husband, but she doesn’t hold back when it comes to her co-stars. Many viewers started questioning whether she was subservient to her husband.

“You have to understand something, lawyers think they are the most important people on the planet, so I chalk that up to being, like, a lawyer for a million years,” Erika explained of her husband on Tuesday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, adding, “Whatever they say, that’s it. Stop talking.”

And one can imagine that Erika doesn’t want to bring her drama home to her husband. While Girardi can fight it out with her co-stars on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she doesn’t talk drama with her husband. And for some reason, Andy thought that it was a power struggle in the home for the couple. It was Andy Cohen, who went on to point out that he thinks Erika seems subservient to Tom on the show. But she doesn’t see it that way. In fact, she thinks that she’s just being respectful of him.

“I don’t know if it’s subservient as much as it is mostly respectful, I guess,” Erika Girardi said to Andy Cohen, adding, “His time is precious, and I just try to make the most of it.”

But it sounds like it was just Andy Cohen who thought that perhaps Girardi was being subservient to her husband. Other reality stars came out in defense of Erika, revealing that she was just respecting her husband enough to keep the Real Housewives drama away from him. He’s an older lawyer with plenty of experience and probably no desire to be famous for being on a reality show. And maybe Girardi understands this.

“I TOTALLY get [sic] the’ thng w/ @erikajayne & her man. She [loves], respects, understands him. He is not dismissive. They respectively get each other,” Mercedes MJ Javid revealed on Twitter as Watch What Happens Live aired, to which Erika replied with a thanks.

Plus, if Erika was truly subservient to her husband, one can imagine that he wouldn’t let her perform as Erika Jayne. And she was the first person to admit that he has been in the audience, cheering her on. If that wasn’t all, she’s also expressed genuine thanks for him changing her life, according to Radar Online.

“Going from nothing to everything is pretty amazing,” Erika said in her confessional on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, adding, “I was broke and I was a cocktail waitress and Mr. Girardi was my customer for a year. Being broke sucks and being rich is a lot better!”

Maybe it was these rich-poor comments that made people think she was a gold digger, but she stands by the fact that she didn’t marry for money. The two have been married for over 15 years and she’s very happy even though there’s a 32-year age difference — something that could also play into the whole “respect” thing she’s talking about.
