Beyonce To Direct Documentary About… Herself

Beyonce Knowles wears many hats in her career, and she’s about to add another – documentary director.

According to reports, Beyonce and her team of representatives at agency ICM have been busy in recent weeks shopping a documentary film about the superstar’s life and career to all of the big Hollywood studios (a la Katy Perry, Part of Me). According to sources of the LA Times, the film will be a mixture of Bey’s musical career and personal issues. We’ll be seeing concert footage and confessional spots.

Beyonce is going to star in the film (obviously), but will also be producing it, and – directing it. She’s got about 20 minutes of the film-about-her that she has been showing to distributors, reports Newser.

Documentaries about musicians have proven quite popular among artists lately. Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, the Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus have all gotten the documentary treatment, though these films don’t always take with audiences. Katy Perry might be musical gold, but her documentary Part of Me has only grossed about $24 million since it came out last month. Still, celebrities like the different kind of exposure, and studios like the celebrity appeal and frugal production costs.

No one knows what Beyonce’s movie will be about just yet, but several headline-highlights could make the cut. Among them, her marriage to Jay-Z, the birth of the couple’s daughter, her split from longtime manager (and father), and her latest album, “4.” Bey also has some documentary experience already. MTV aired a mini-documentary in 2011 titled Beyoncé: Year of 4, which showed recording sessions and vacation time.
