Miley Cyrus Shares Tears On Instagram After Watching LGBTQ Documentary ‘Gaycation’ Hosted By Ellen Page And Ian Daniel
Miley Cyrus might be getting ready to walk down the aisle with Liam Hemsworth but that doesn’t mean she’s turned her back on the LGBTQ community. Miley stayed in on Friday morning to watch Ellen Page’s Gaycation and the documentary left her in tears. Cyrus shared her sadness on Instagram for her fans. Apparently, the documentary really hit Miley in her feelings and she wanted to share the moment.
A certain scene in Gaycation really tugged on Miley’s feelings, causing the singer to shed a few tears. Cyrus shared the sad picture on Instagram with this caption, “#gaycation got me like…….@viceland @happyhippiefdn @ellenpage(this is post a scene where a young Japanese man comes out to his mother….. My heart breaks but is melded back together with hope and optimism for family acceptance)”
That wasn’t the only scene that had Miley in tears either. After Gaycation ended, Cyrus took another tearful selfie. This time, Miley wrote, “Thank you so much@ianjamesdaniel @ellenpage for#gaycation and showing people all over the world OTHER people all over the world and how different cultures accept or neglect the lgbtq community…..@happyhippiefdn I am blown away@viceland incredible series!!!! Brazil got me!!!!!!”
Miley has been a supporter of the LGBTQ community for years now and even came out as bisexual when she was 14 years old. While fans were watching Cyrus play Hannah Montana on The Disney Channel, she had already come out to her mom. In recent years, Miley has opted not to label herself. In an interview with Paper magazine last year, Cyrus said, “I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with.”
Cyrus said in the interview that she’s had serious relationships with women. Some of them were just as serious as the ones we’ve all gossiped about, but Miley said she just didn’t bring attention to them and apparently the media never caught on. “Yo, I’m down with any adult — anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me,” Miley said. “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”
Miley knows what it feels like to grow up not feeling the same as others. She was raised in a Christian household and even admitted that her mother Tish had a hard time accepting her love of both girls and boys. Thankfully, though, her parents accepted her sexuality and didn’t try to change her or her feelings.

In Gaycation, host Ellen Page travels around the world to document homosexuality and how it is perceived in other countries and cultures. Ellen and her best friend Ian Daniel visited Japan, Brazil, Jamaica, Canada, and the U.S. for the documentary on the brand new Viceland channel. In an interview with Vice, Ellen talked about her experience in making the show and what they were trying to show the world about the way LGBTQ people are treated around the world.
It sounds like Miley may have shed some happy tears and some sad tears while watching Page’s new show Gaycation. There are definitely some happy and inspiring moments shared on the new documentary. Just as well, there are many people and parts of the world that still have not become accepting of others’ differences and that is also shown during the first season of Ellen Page’s breakout travel series Gaycation.
