‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Rebecca Herbst Resumes Contract Negotiations — Nurse Liz Webber To Stay In Port Charles?

General Hospital contract negotiations with Rebecca Herbst hit a major snag and has been stalled for quite some time. At one point, Herbst decided to walk away from her role, leaving fans heartbroken that Liz Webber could leave Port Charles for good. Dave Bedford on Twitter revealed that Rebecca began contracts negotiations once again and was hopeful that she could reach an agreement with General Hospital.

For the past three months, Rebecca has tried to iron out her new contract, however, TPTB has done nothing but low ball and nickel and dime her, according to Daytime Confidential. Elizabeth Webber is not a character you can recast, as the fans would not accept anyone but Herbst in the role. Liz Webber is a villain that the General Hospital fans either love and support or love to hate her. Both sides of the coin agree that her character is critical to the soap opera’s success and is not a role that another actress could portray very easily.

Rebecca has portrayed Nurse Webber in a way not many actresses could over the past few years. She knew when her character concealed Jason Morgan’s (Billy Miller) true identity that the fans would be upset. Rebecca prepared herself for the backlash, knowing that her fan base could desert her. Even though she never agreed with the way the writers portrayed Elizabeth later, she still continued to portray the villain in the best way she could.

General Hospital fans have been extremely upset at the possibility that Rebecca could leave the show. Recently, it was announced that little Jake (James Nigbor) was recast with an older actor — General Hospital apparently plans to SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Age Syndrome) the character. Now that Jake has been recast and is off the show, what does that mean for Liz Webber? Will she receive less scene time over the next few weeks?

General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini explained that Rebecca is a valued part of the soap opera, and he’d hope that she’d ink a new deal with ABC. While Herbst is a beloved actress, she also deserves to be paid her worth. According to the reports, Rebecca received an “insulting contract deal,” which forced her to tell them initially that she was leaving the daytime drama.

General Hospital fans were over the moon after learning that Rebecca’s contract was back on the table. It seemed like a lost cause for a few weeks. Daytime Confidential revealed that if she ended her contract with General Hospital, then it could be a bidding war for one of the other three soaps to get her on board. The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives both expressed interest in bringing her to the show.

The most recent role that seemed like a good fit for her was Abby Deveraux on DOOL. Many fans thought she may have been a little too old for the part, however, most soap fans believed Becky could make it work. Even so, it seems like Rebecca has decided to try to make it work with General Hospital instead of jumping to another soap opera that may not work out in the long run.
