‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’: Sylvester Stallone In A Judge Dredd/Howard The Duck Mash-Up? [Rumors]

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is another notch in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it looks like another rumor is amiss. Last week, Sylvester Stallone was said to be headed to the set of the Marvel movie location, according to Latino-Review. He was spotted leaving his hotel in Atlanta, Ga. and was getting into a car typically subscribed to Star-Lord’s Chris Pratt, according to Movie Web.

Now, more information via On Location Vacations indicated Stallone actually being on the set of Guardians 2. The source directly came from someone on the set, but remains unnamed.

Most interestingly though, it was also mentioned that Sylvester Stallone was wearing an outfit quite similar to that of Judge Dredd from the movie by the same name. But of course, if anyone remembers what the Nova Corps costume looks like, helmet included, there is quite a similarity between the two.

Of course, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, actually having Judge Dredd as part of the cosmic ensemble may be quite reaching. On the other hand, possibly appearing in a cameo is not unthought of. That being said, rumors further continue as it was said that Stallone had shot a scene with Howard the Duck.

If anyone recalls the first movie, Howard was part of the end-credits sequence, along with Cosmo and The Collector, played by Benicio Del Toro. Could this yet be another similar shoot?

A year ago, it was questioned by Cinema Blend if Howard the Duck would be making his return to the galactic comic book movie. In a sense, yes, but there will be a series of comics that will tell the tale of how he got into The Collector’s possession. The synopsis reads as such.

“Howard’s first big case has taken him across the universe and landed him in the clutches of The Collector! But he’s not alone as the very popular Rocket Raccoon is a prisoner as well! Have you ever seen a comic book sequel to a post-credits scene in a movie? Well, you will now!”

Two years ago, there was a discussion about the Howard the Duck end-credits scene that though it was rather amusing; some thought there was no real in-depth meaning to it. However, Cinema Blend gave a report regarding an impact that it would have on the future of Marvel.

The Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director did suggest a possibility that Howard the Duck would “reappear as more of a character in the Marvel Universe.” Though he did acknowledge lesser of the likelihood of another Howard the Duck movie.

“If people think that’s going to lead to a Howard The Duck movie… that’s probably not going to happen in the next four years. Who knows after that?”

Well, history dictates in comic book lore, Judge Dredd was satirized and appeared in a “handful of issues of Howard the Duck.” This satirical event happened just prior to the Judge Dredd movie being released, according to Wikipedia.

It wouldn’t be surprising that a slew of comic book characters, no matter how obscure, may wind up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even as a cameo, especially come Avengers: Infinity War time. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo made a statement a week ago regarding the number of characters in the movie during the 2016 Wizard World in Cleveland, Ohio, according to Cleveland.

“The movie features 68 distinct characters, not 67.”

The comic book movie stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, and Vin Diesel as Groot. Karen Gillan will be returning as the villainous Nebula and a new actress, Pom Klementieff, as Mantis. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to debut come May 5, 2017.
