‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Free March Update Out, Hutt Contracts Teased

Star Wars: Battlefront received another free update on Tuesday. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC shooter returns to Endor and Tatooine with a new multiplayer map and Survival Mission. Possibly of more interest is DICE teasing the addition of Hutt contracts in a future update, featuring Jabba himself.

The March update to Star Wars: Battlefront adds the “Survivors of Endor” multiplayer map. The map is set on the Ewok-infested moon following the destruction of the second Death Star and supports the Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point game modes.

Meanwhile, players will have another Survival mission to take on set on Tatooine. This is not a new map, however. The map uses one of the existing multiplayer maps on the planet. It does have a little Yoda Easter Egg included though, as discovered by YouTube user Narwhal Dave.

The patch notes for the March update show that the new map and mission are the only changes to Star Wars: Battlefront. There is no gameplay balancing or bug fixes.

This is possibly the last free content update to the multiplayer shooter. The official word from DICE prior to the February update was, “In addition to the free content we will be delivering through March, we will continue to listen to our community throughout the year and provide updates designed to make Star Wars: Battlefront even more fun for everyone.”

While it’s possible more new maps and missions won’t be added to Star Wars: Battlefront, DICE did tease the addition of Hutt Contracts in a future update via a new trailer released today. Details haven’t been shared, but these appear to be bounty-style challenges, based on a Twitter conversation from DICE Lead Designer Dennis Brännvall. A hologram of a weapon was shown, so it is possible unlocking new weapons will be the reward.

It’s unknown when Jabba and Hutt contracts will be released, but it will likely be around the same time as the Outer Rim expansion, the first paid DLC planned for release by the end of March. The add-on features Jabba the Hutt’s palace on two new maps, along with another two maps set around the factories of Sullust.

Meanwhile, Greedo and Nien Nunb will be added as two new playable Heroes, plus a new set of weapons and Star Cards. There is also a new mode called Extraction. This is another Battlefront scenario where one side attempts to complete an objective, while the other side tries to stop them.

Rebel forces have entered some of the most dangerous places in the Outer Rim in order to extract a valuable shipment of resources. Now, they must bring the shipment to their transport ship before time runs out. The Empire has arrived to stop them from reaching the extraction point.

The release cadence for Star Wars: Battlefront has been laid out by DICE already. There will be one new paid DLC pack per season over the next year. Battlefront players may be served well when combined with the free DLC releases.

  • Star Wars Battlefront Outer Rim (March 2016) – Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Bespin (Summer 2016) – It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Death Star (Fall 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017) – We will have more details to share about this exciting new expansion pack in the coming months.

The Star Wars: Battlefront Season Pass costs $50 for those interested. Each DLC will also be sold individually for $15.
