Mariah Carey Still Can’t Remember Who Jennifer Lopez Is

Apparently, Mariah Carey still doesn’t remember who Jennifer Lopez is. Maybe she doesn’t want to remember her fellow pop star for a good reason.

TMZ’s photographers caught up with Mariah Carey at The Beverly Hilton hotel on Monday evening, March 7. The report claims that Carey was feeling a little grumpy that night, as she didn’t like being asked about Jennifer Lopez for the upteenth time. But if you take a look at the video, Carey seems like her usual sweet (and sarcastic) self.

The photog asked: “What do you think of all these people still referencing ‘I don’t know her,’ all these years later?”

Mariah jokingly responded “I still don’t know her!”

Sources told TMZ the real reason why Mariah was upset was because the limo that was supposed to take her to an event honoring Brett Ratner never showed up. So, the diva was late because she had to take a Lyft instead.

In case you didn’t know, TMZ was asking about the interview that Carey did with a foreign TV station, in which she was asked her opinion about her fellow pop stars. She called Beyoncé “nice” and “a good writer,” and then she was asked about Jennifer Lopez. “I don’t know her,” Carey said with a smile on her face.

And that’s how the iconic meme was born. You’ve probably seen the GIF version a lot in your online travels.

Jennifer Lopez addressed that iconic moment during her sit-down interview on The Wendy Williams Show. On Thursday, March 3, the singer opened up about everything going on in her life, from the final season of American Idol to her Las Vegas residency.

“[The residency] was a dream. When I think of Vegas, I think of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley and iconic performers. Before I even signed my deal to go to Vegas, when they were offering it to me, I went and saw a bunch of shows. I saw everybody. I saw Britney [Spears], I saw Shania [Twain].”

However, she did add “I didn’t see Mariah because at the time she wasn’t playing.”

Then Wendy dove in and said “Who? No, I’m playing. That’s what Mariah said about Jennifer one time.”

Lopez laughed and said, “She does that. She’s forgetful I guess! We’ve met many times. I don’t know … I don’t know her that well.”

As to why she didn’t see Mariah performed? Jennifer insists that it was a scheduling matter. The “Booty” singer told Andy Cohen the real reason why she didn’t watch Mariah perform on Watch What Happens Live on Monday, February 29.

“I think last year when it started I was already here in New York filming Shades of Blue and doing Idol on the weekends – didn’t have a lot of time. Then I started preparing on my own. I don’t think there’s been a time when I could have seen it.”

This isn’t the first time that Jennifer Lopez had to quash the rumors of her alleged feud with Mariah Carey. She previously addressed it during her 2014 interview with Cohen, where she admitted that she never met Carey at all.

“I know from back in the day, I’ve read things that she’s said about me that were not the greatest, but we have never met. Like, we don’t know each other. I think it’s kind of from word of mouth of things that have happened in the past that I’m not really aware of.”

So, what’s the truth, J.Lo? The feud rumors picked up steam shortly after the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, where Lopez was caught looking at her phone during Carey’s performance. Videos and GIFs of Lopez looking at her phone immediately became her epic response to Carey’s “I don’t know her” GIF. She told Cohen that Carey’s performance was really long, which is why she ended up scrolling through her Instagram feed.

“First of all, that was not fair with the texting thing because I watched a lot of it – it was a long performance. I watched most of it, I may have looked down for one second and people were like, ‘Look at her! Look at her!’ “

Carey may have a problem with J.Lo, but she’s a huge Queen Bey fan. The two powerhouse divas spent some time together at a gala held by the Heartview Global Foundation in Los Angeles. Carey shared a glamorous photo of herself with the performer along with the caption “Two girls, one cause.”

Then in an exclusive interview with Access Hollywood, Carey revealed that she would love to collaborate with the “Formation” singer.

“I would love to work with her anytime, she’s amazing. It will happen, when and if it happens, whenever. And if not, I’ll always admire her and look at her as a friend.”
