Mick Foley Should Referee Shane McMahon Vs. Undertaker ‘WrestleMania 32’ Match

It’s been reported by multiple sources that WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley will be a part of this April’s WrestleMania 32, and that WWE fans should expect him to return to RAW at some point in the next couple of weeks to setup what he’s doing on the show.

Word is that Mick Foley is booked for next week’s RAW show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, although he’s not currently advertised for the show on WWE’s website. The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the “Hardcore Legend” will also be appearing on all the RAW‘s leading into WrestleMania after his return.

So, what will Foley’s role be? Some have suggested that he’ll end up doing something with Kevin Owens, but that seems unlikely, as Owens will probably be defending his Intercontinental Championship in a multi-person ladder match, against guys like AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler, and The Miz.

It’s been well-known for several years now that Foley can never wrestle again. So, you’ll be disappointed if you’re hoping for him to return to the ring.

There is one thing that he could do that no one has brought up yet, and that is be the special guest referee in the Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon Hell in a Cell match.

Foley had the most famous Hell in a Cell match of all-time with Undertaker back in the summer of 1998, and he has had a history with the McMahon family, as he was the guest referee in the Vince McMahon vs. Shane McMahon match back at WrestleMania 17.

Rumor has it that WWE is planning on having Shawn Michaels be the guest referee in the Roman Reigns vs. Triple H match, which is the main-event of the show. So, WWE may not want to do the same thing twice on one show, and if that’s the case, then Foley won’t be refereeing Shane vs. Undertaker.

If you look up and down the card, there’s really no place for Foley other than the Hell in a Cell match. Sure, he could do a backstage skit with someone, but if he’s coming back to set something up for the show several weeks in advance, a backstage skit wouldn’t make any sense.

He may end up doing something with The Rock, who is also going to be at the show. But it’s been rumored that The Rock will be in Roman Reigns’ corner to counteract Vince McMahon, who will presumably be in Triple H’s corner in the main-event. Sure, you could throw Foley in Reigns’ corner, but what would be the point of that?

There’s a chance that Foley could get involved in the Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose street fight. In fact, he could referee that match. Foley has been a longtime supporter of Ambrose, and in fact, several years ago before doctors told him that he could never wrestle again, the “Hardcore Legend” wanted to come back and have his retirement match against the “Lunatic Fringe.”

But if Foley were to be involved in Lesnar vs. Ambrose, then Lesnar would almost certainly have to get his hands on him at some point, and that’s not going to happen.

If WWE is planning to have Shane McMahon defeat Undertaker, then having Foley as the guest referee is a great idea, because he could assist Shane in the victory via a fast-count, or a low blow.

Also, there’s a huge chance that Vince McMahon will end up getting inside the cell, in an attempt to help Undertaker beat his son. Foley could counteract that, and take Vince out of the equation during the match.

Foley being involved in the Undertaker vs. Shane match seems like the only logical option for him, but WWE may be planning something else for the “Hardcore Legend.”
