Rihanna Designs Limited-Edition ‘Quirky’ Denim Shoe Line With Manolo Blahnik

Bajan beauty Rihanna is collaborating with designer Manolo Blahnik on a limited-edition shoe line called Denim Desserts, which will be sold in New York, London, and Hong Kong. The news arrived Friday morning when the singer was revealed as British Vogue’s sultry April cover girl. Yahoo! Style previewed four of the six styles.

“There’s the ‘Sea Salt,’ a pointy-toe, mule-style pump in light denim with a sequined overlay and thin ankle strap; the ‘Rih-vi’s,’ a dark denim sandal with embellished toe strap; the ‘Dancehall Cowgirl,’ a lace-up stiletto bootie with beading around the shaft; and the pièce de résistance — the ‘9 to 5,’ a waist-high, dark denim stiletto boot with a jewel-encrusted belt attached. They’re basically the footwear version of a**-less chaps.”

“The day I see a woman in the street wearing my shoes…I am sorry for that woman because I’m going to literally run after her, shouting, ‘Stop! Selfie! Who are you? Where did you get them?’ I’m going to have a moment,” said Rihanna in an interview with high-fashion publication.

“If you’re trying to get back home to your bed, don’t wear them boots! You will get kidnapped in those boots, those boots are trouble,” she added.

Manolo Blahnik is a Spanish fashion designer and founder of the self-named, high-end shoe brand that women from all walks of life adore. The designs will boast denim, sequins, and embroidery, and will be inspired by RiRi’s hand tattoos.

“This is an incredibly exciting collaboration and I am absolutely thrilled with the results – working with Rihanna has been amazing and her drive, passion, creativity and style has been reflected in the designs, with fabulous results,” Blahnik enthused of the collaboration. “I think everyone is going to love what they are about to see.”

Rihanna is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time – with sales exceeding 200 million records worldwide. She is also the youngest and fastest solo artist to earn 14 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. WWD reports that her British Vogue cover was “photographed by Craig Dean, styled by Kate Phelan and she is pictured wearing a denim Alexander McQueen coat, Isabel Marant knitted hot pants and denim chap boots from the Rihanna x Manolo Blahnik collection.” The issue hits newsstands next Thursday.

“Oh my goodness, my mother – she is a woman’s woman,” Rihanna tells Vogue about her fashion inspiration. “I was obsessed with everything she did then, everything she wore, her scent, her shoes and her scarves…That was the glamour I wanted to be part of.”

“For Manolo Blahnik, Rihanna was a collaboration we were really excited about,” said CEO of Manolo Blahnik, Kristina Blahnik, this morning. “We firmly believed the two of them working hand-in-hand together with their creativity would achieve something totally unique and very special – we are really, really excited for the collection to launch.”

Brands love Rihanna, and a recent analysis by the NPD Group suggests that she is the most marketable celebrity in the world, whose endorsement deals are more lucrative than those of stars like Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, or Jennifer Lopez.

“Rihanna’s index score of 367 means that she has almost 3.7 times as many strong brand endorsement opportunities as the average big-name celebrity.”

She became Puma’s creative director in 2014, and she’s a brand ambassador for Dior, has worked with MAC Cosmetics, and designed a collection for River Island.

Rihanna’s collection will arrive exclusively at Manolo Blahnik stores on May 5, and the designs will “incorporate the inimitable style of Manolo Blahnik with a mix of Rihanna’s quirky and artistic influence.”

The Rihanna x Manolo Blahnik shoes range in price from $895 to $3,995.
