‘Shark Tank’ Star Daymond John Announces Birth Of His New Baby Girl

Daymond John might have a newfound interest in the baby products that are pitched on Shark Tank. Us Weekly has confirmed the clothing and branding mogul became the father to a baby girl on Wednesday. It is the first child John, and his longtime girlfriend, have had together.

Perez Hilton reported that it is John’s third daughter, as he has two other children from a previous relationship. Back in 2014, John tweeted that he was attending a Miley Cyrus concert with his daughters, which the normally cool John described as “a lot to take in.”

A rep for John told Us Weekly that mother and new baby are “happy and healthy.”

John has always spoken about the importance of family in his life, notably his mother, who raised him on her own in Hollis, Queens. When CNN asked John to name the one person who got him where he is, he singled her out.

“It’s good ol’ mom, by far. She would always push me. She led by example. She would always work twice as hard.”

In addition to working hard to fund his trip to Hawaii so he could grow up with a “worldly view,” John said his mother made sure both of them were surrounded by good, smart people. In the same CNN piece, John said he defines success in part by doing what you love and being around the people you want to be near, as well as not seeking validation from others. He spoke of what he’d like to pass on to his daughters.

“I would love to leave my kids, my daughters, a legacy instead of an inheritance and if they understand that and if they love what their father is doing well then, that’s success. It really is not money. Did Gandhi have any money?”

John spoke with Inc. last year about his investing strategy on Shark Tank. John has spoken frequently about his past failures and how he’s learned from them. He told the magazine he’s as much interested in the people who stand on the Shark Tank carpet as their product; and he wants to see certain skills: digital literacy and problem-solving. A past history of failure doesn’t hurt either.

“It’s very important to me that somebody has failed. When I started Fubu, I kept running out of money because I was bootstrapping it myself. I didn’t have an idea of where I wanted to go with it. So I look for people who are driven to succeed but are open to several paths.”

John then called out some of his Shark Tank successes: Bombas socks, Titin athletic gear, and Bubba’s Q World Famous Bar-B-Q & Catering.

Shark Tank was among the ABC shows that received an early renewal this week, which means fans of Daymond John and his colleagues will enjoy access to new episodes for at least another season, the eighth of the series. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the show has revitalized what had been a lackluster night on ABC — Fridays — and opened up the earlier time slot for new series Dr. Ken and Last Man Standing. The show’s reruns air on CNBC, opening up the show’s entrepreneurs to another new audience.

Daymond John’s entrepreneurs, Bubba’s-Q Bar-B-Q among them, have been among those featured on the Shark Tank spinoff Beyond the Tank, which shows how things go for businesses who get their shot on the carpet — and may or may not leave with a deal.

Shark Tank airs Friday nights at 9 p.m. on ABC.
