Joey Feek Cancer Update: Country Star Dies After A Two-Year Battle, Rory Feek Posts A Touching Photo Of His Wife And Daughter Just Before She Died [Updated]

UPDATE: Rory Feek posted to his blog that Joey Feek got her wish — she is in heaven and free of cancer.

“My wife’s greatest dream came true today. She is in Heaven.

“The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry. Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior.

“At 2:30 this afternoon, as we were gathered around her, holding hands and praying.. my precious bride breathed her last. And a moment later took her first breath on the other side.”

Country star Joey Feek is still holding on and not ready to give up her fight to live just yet. Rory Feek shared a picture on Facebook of his daughter Heidi holding Joey’s hand, showing an affectionate moment between them. He didn’t show their faces but made it clear that the hands belonged to his wife and daughter. Apparently, Joey isn’t ready quite yet to give up the fight and is sticking around for a few more days at least.

Rory noted that it had been extremely hard for their children to come to terms with Joey’s cancer battle. The kids aren’t ready to say goodbye to their mother, and it has proven to be particularly challenging for Heidi. Ever since Joey went into her deep sleep, the family has huddled around her, wondering when she will let go and when the battle will be over. So far, Joey hasn’t let go yet, although the nurse expects it to occur at any moment.

[Image Via Facebook]On February 29, Joey said goodbye to her family as they prepared for her to go into deep sleep. Joey called each one of the children and said goodbye, with her 2-year-old Indiana being the most difficult. She asked Indiana to watch over her father, Rory, because he will need her more than ever when she leaves.

“Joey gathered her family together around her and she said goodbye to each of them… to her mother and father and her three sisters. There were lots of tears as she explained to each one how much she loved them and that she was going home soon. That her time here was done and she was going to go to sleep soon.”

Joey also wanted to give Indiana one last kiss as she prepared to say goodbye to the life she knew.

“I set our little Indy on Joey’s lap and we all cried with my wife as she told her how much her mama loved her and, ‘…you be a big girl for your papa… and that mama will be watching over you. And then she pulled Indiana up and she kissed her.

“One last kiss.”

At this point, there is nothing they can do for Joey except manage her pain and ease her suffering. In October, she decided to stop cancer treatments because they were deemed ineffective for her. The next month, Joey decided to enter the hospice program and spend what little time she had left with her loved ones. At the time, Joey was told that she had a month or two at the most. By some miracle, nearly three months after they said she would die, the beautiful country star is still clinging to life.

“Sometimes there just aren’t enough surgeries — or doctors — or chemotherapies — or prayers. And you have to wipe the tears from your cheeks and say the words that you were hoping to never have to say … Enough!”

Us Weekly shared that since they learned she was terminally ill, they shared Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Indiana’s birthday together. At one time, Rory wasn’t sure if Joey would make it to Christmas, let alone Valentine’s Day or her daughter’s second birthday. A few days ago, Rory shared that Joey’s goal was to celebrate Indiana’s second birthday — which was February 17.

Joey and Rory Feek (Joey+Rory) were nominated for a Grammy award this year in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category. They lost to Little Big Town; however, Joey didn’t let it upset her. She told Rory that she was sorry they didn’t win the Grammy Award.

“I smiled and said, ‘that’s OK.’ Then jokingly, I added, ‘… there’s always next year.’ She smiled back at me and said, ‘yes … next year.”

Joey Feek remains in a deep sleep, and the hospice nurse told her family that she likely will never wake up. Her friends, family, and fans are praying for a miracle. Check back with Inquisitr later for more Joey Feek news and updates.
