‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Season 2 News: New Details Released [Video]

Fear The Walking Dead is poised to come back as strong as ever in season 2 when it debuts this spring on AMC. There is also good reason to believe that the show is going to start moving into its climax of ratings power, now that the “slow burn” of season 1 has concluded.

What fans of Fear The Walking Dead can expect out of season 2 is that the naïve attitudes toward survival will be mostly extinct, with a few exceptions of course. Showrunner Dave Erickson sat down and spoke with the Hollywood Reporter and gave some details about what fans can expect out of season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead.

If there is one thing that is perfectly clear about Fear The Walking Dead, it is that the show is going to be quite different than its predecessor, The Walking Dead. As a matter of fact, even though the show was the highest-rated program last summer, there were still a lot of people that thought it was not all that good because it lacked all of the momentum and skill of the characters in TWD. But what fans of Fear The Walking Dead need to realize is that the characters need time to acclimate themselves with those kinds of characteristics before they can just start going all homicidal on people they know nothing about.

“We’ve got a group of people who have been removed from their homes and there’s a great sense of mourning and grieving,” Erickson told THR. “They’ve all lost loved ones over the course of season one and are in a fragile place. On top of that, they had to abandon Los Angeles.”

But season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead is going to be more about how the characters start building a family, such as the core group from TWD. That means fans of the franchise will start seeing the beginning of that issue where good people are just now learning about who they should or shouldn’t trust.

“Strand is still an enigma who may or may not have his own agenda and intentions when they get onto the boat,” Erickson said. “It provides for this interesting balance of paranoia and anxiety, which is not dissimilar from last season but we’re now on a boat in the middle of the ocean and that’s going to give us a lot of drama for first few episodes.”

Erickson also pointed out that even though there is not going to be any significant time jump between the seasons, there is going to be a very noticeable difference. For starters, there is going to be zombie action on the water, but that does not mean that the zombies are going to be swimmers. They will be “waders,” as Erickson pointed out.

“Zombies can wade and that’s something we experimented with in the first couple episodes; it has a lot to do with decomposition and gas buildup in the body,” Erickson said.

But the entire season will not be dominated by survival on the water, but rather with the core group finding a safe place to dock and survive on land. Islands haven’t been ruled out at this point, but they are also looking for other options on specific mainlands. Otherwise, it would just be another Jaws movie with zombies instead of sharks.

He also said that Operation Cobalt will get some more details in season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead. Fans will be able to get a more detailed understanding of that than they did in season 1. That may also be a topic that comes up in discussion on The Walking Dead as well, but that does not mean that the characters will do any sort of crossover.

Fans can tune in and watch season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead on AMC starting on April 10 at 9 p.m. EDT.
