‘Suicide Squad’: Jared Leto And The Impact Of His Method Acting — Ben Affleck Has Seen The Cut

DC Entertainment’s Suicide Squad, starring Jared Leto, Ben Affleck, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, and a host of others is a villain team-up on the big screen. Leto was at the Academy Awards when he was interviewed about his role as the Joker. He has a history of being highly immersed into his method acting techniques, and it spilled over to his cohorts on the set and beyond. Heroic Hollywood reported Jared Leto’s response to the highly-anticipated villain of the Suicide Squad movie.

“I did interact, but I did it through the eyes of The Joker—which is really fun. It was fun to play that game.”

Even actor Will Smith was said to not have spoken to Jared out of character, so it looks like Leto’s cohorts are doing well at accommodating him.

“It was interesting to take on this challenge. It was unlike anything I’ve ever done before.”

This was proven on a few occasions, as Jared’s fellow actors gave their commentary of their experiences with The Joker persona that extended beyond the production. It was rather unnerving for some on the set of Suicide Squad, but then they “got it” when it was thought this would make for a more authentic performance for Leto as a psychotic maniac on-screen.

People do what works for them when it comes to their passion and what better method for Jared Leto to carry such a passion as a method actor than with a dead pig or or a live rat?

Suicide Squad star Viola Davis, who plays Amanda Waller, portrays the character who puts a team of these villains together. Davis gave her take on her experience with one of Leto’s “henchmen” when getting a big surprise from some pork, according to Cinema Blend.

“Now I’m terrified as a person thinking ‘Is he crazy?’ but the second part was ‘Oh s**t! I got to have my stuff together’.”

So it looks like Leto was keeping them in line, one-by-one.

Even Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, a well known character in DC Comics as The Joker’s main squeeze, received a live rat from Leto last year, according to Entertainment Weekly. She even read between the lines that Harley, being the way she is, would show an appreciation for such a gift.

Why give Miss Quinn diamonds, when she can cherish something much more, at least from her perspective. It was considered a “celebrity pet” while enjoying the finer things in life by “now dining on organic berries from Whole Foods.”

“If Harley got something from Joker, she’d probably cherish it.”

Jared Leto later gave great accolades and praise to director David Ayer for his work on the movie, and, according to Heroic Hollywood, figured this to make sense since he’s coming back to work on Suicide Squad 2.

“He’s great! He’s an animal. I love him.”

Another person to love is actor Ben Affleck, who spoke about the Suicide Squad movie as well because he actually saw a cut of David Ayer’s project, according to Heroic Hollywood. As it turns out, it looks to be rather promising. The public may have seen some footage of Batman on top of the Joker’s car from the first trailer.

“I’ve seen Suicide Squad, and I can tell you that movie really works. That movie is really, really cool and fun and awesome.”

The Suicide Squad movie is scheduled to debut on Aug. 5 and is directed by David Ayer.
