David Norton’s Violent Past Kept From Ashley Doherty Before Marriage

David Norton and Ashley Doherty of Married at First Sight couldn’t make their marriage work, but now it turns out that Ashley didn’t know everything about David before agreeing to marry him. When you go on the show, you agree to trust the experts to set you up with the perfect person for you. In Touch Weekly is now sharing that Ashley Doherty is very upset that the experts did not reveal David Norton’s violent past to her before marrying him.

David Norton was arrested back in 2007 after an argument with his now ex-girlfriend. Of course, Ashley married David Norton at first sight and didn’t know anything about this arrest.

Ashley Doherty’s mother, Mary Harnois, is now speaking out and saying that Ashley is upset about not being told the truth about David Norton upfront. Ashley trusted the experts to do a great background check and give her someone she would be safe with, and they don’t feel like that is what happened with David.

“[Ashley] feels duped. I blame the show. She feels like she was let down in a big way because they told her they do background checks. So when someone tells you that, you’re like, ‘Okay, well at least they won’t have a criminal past.'”

The court records show that Married at First Sight knew about David Norton’s past though. They made a written request for David’s court case and it was submitted by DLS Background Services, Inc. on June 4, 2015. This was just a few days before Ashley and David got married. Ashley’s mom went on to say that they were really surprised when they found out about David Norton’s past. She explained that Ashley saw a few red flags with David during their relationship.

“One thing I remember my daughter telling me from almost the beginning, when they’d started to live together, was, ‘He’s a door-slammer,’ And a couple of times, she said he got in her face. But of course they’re not going to show that on camera because they portrayed him as Mr. Wonderful.”

David Norton did actually plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct in 2008 and was forced to take anger management classes. According to the 2007 police report, David smashed the cell phone of his girlfriend at the time and then he grabbed her, but she pushed him away.

People shared that David Norton actually denied the allegations that he was abusive. He did find his girlfriend at the time with his brother and the police were called, but from David’s version it was not as bad as the police report says. David Norton gave his own statement about what happened.

“It also seems some people are looking to find dirt on me. And let me tell you, I’m not perfect. I was arrested when I was 21, after I got into a loud fight with my brother when I caught him with my girlfriend. I smashed a phone in anger, and I wanted nothing more than to get them out of the house. While I was angry, I never hit anyone. I was cited for disorderly conduct, and I ended up attending one two-hour class. Neither my girlfriend nor my brother ever filed charges, and I was never convicted of any crime. I was young and stupid – it’s something that I deeply regret and it isn’t something that I’m proud of. But I learned and grew as a person, and as the years passed, I reconciled with both my brother, and my ex-girlfriend. Today I can tell you one constant in my life has been that I’m human, and I make mistakes, but I would never hurt anyone, and nothing even remotely close to this has happened since. As much as I wish I could change the past, I cannot. All I can continue to do is to improve the man I am now, who is a far cry from who I was in 2007.”
