Foo Fighters To Break Up, As Dave Grohl Launches Solo Career?
The Foo Fighters have revealed that they will make a major announcement on their Twitter account Thursday night. Giving no further details, the statement made by the Foo Fighters has left fans speculating on what that news might entail, with many fearing the worst from the band.
Rumors of feuding between band members have only served to further fuel suspicions that the Foo Fighters’ days have come to an end, while Dave Grohl adds further credence to the gossip by launching a solo career.
Is A Break Up Imminent? Foo Fighters Fans Want To Know
The prime suspicion that the Foo Fighters may be headed for a break up comes from rumors that Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins have been at odds. The source of the tension stems from Dave’s desire to head off in a new direction with a solo career.
“The band is billing it as a ‘break,’ but it’s totally Dave going solo and Taylor is p***ed about it,” said a source for the New York Post‘s Page Six.
A representative for the Foo Fighters declined to comment on Grohl’s plans for a solo career, while also saying that any rumors of a Foo Fighters break up are “utterly ridiculous.”
Reading between the lines, it seems as though the Foo Fighters’ rep is trying to keep Dave Grohl’s solo project quiet, at least for the time being. It’s entirely possible that the Foo Fighters may be taking a break to allow Grohl to pursue his solo career and plan to reunite down the road. Many other bands have made similar compromises.
On the other hand, Grohl may simply be leaving the Foo Fighters. If that is the case and he had made the decision to give the rest of the band advance warning, there may already be a replacement for Grohl. This may be the major announcement coming tomorrow night.
Why Is Dave Grohl Striking Out On His Own?
This much is obvious. Dave Grohl is unhappy with the current state of affairs in the Foo Fighters and it has to do with more than just a little feud with drummer Taylor Hawkins. He recently remarked on the band’s lack of ambition, feeling that the Foo Fighters could do more to nab their share of Grammys.
“We’re the old guys. We root for the young ones. We don’t sit there and [angrily] think, ‘God, I hope I get another f***ing Grammy!’ We’re like, ‘That Alabama Shakes record kicks a**.’ You root for the young ones coming up.”
It seems clear Grohl wants to be up on that stage, accepting a Grammy or two for himself. At this stage in the Foo Fighters’ growth, or lack thereof, Dave may see a solo career as his best option, even if that means parting company from his own band. If this is the nature of that major announcement, Grohl may have already set things in motion, so he can jump full steam ahead into his solo project, as soon as the news is made public and official.
Of course, this is all speculation, and there may not be a parting of ways coming to the Foo Fighters at all. There may be a concert announcement, or perhaps the Foo Fighters are joining a music festival. A new album may be on the way. The words “major announcement” are used often by musicians, and the news isn’t always bad.
In any case, we will all know what secret Dave Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters are keeping soon enough. It’s less than 24 hours, before we know whether the Foo Fighters will go on, or we have a solo album from Dave Grohl to look forward to in the near future.
