Still recuperating from the hounding loss against a weakened Manchester United team last weekend, Arsene Wenger will be hoping his team can put their title bid back on track with a home victory against Swansea City.

But the Gunners are finding it difficult to get goals this season, something of an anomaly for Wenger’s teams. For all their defensive frailties and unexpected let-downs, Arsene Wenger has a reputation for building teams with a lot of attacking flair, and this team appears to be no different on that front.

Even with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, and Olivier Giroud in the team, however, Arsenal have found it increasingly difficult to break down defenses this season. Arsenal have not been able to score in their last two games at home, and with their strike-force struggling with finishing, it could be a problem that could cost the North London team the title this season.

Arsenal’s fans would be hoping that Chilean Sanchez, last season’s top scorer, could find his scoring boots having scored only once since coming from a disruptive injury at the back end of last year. Although Ozil continues to shine with his assists, Arsenal’s strikers have been found wanting when it comes to finishing, and if Arsenal are to reignite their bid for the title, Wenger would need to find a solution to their goal drought soon.

To add to their offensive woes, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has been sidelined for the next two months, and it is a high possibility that he might not return at all this season. Tomas Rosicky, Jack Wilshere, and Santi Cazorla also all remain sidelined.

Arsenal’s form has also disgruntled major sections of fans, with many calling for Wenger’s head after Gunners succumbed to a young United team on Sunday.

Speaking before the Swansea game, however, Arsene Wenger insisted that the season is not yet over, and asked fans to rally behind the team till the end of the season, according to the Mirror.

“We want to transform the negatives into positives around us and create even more solidarity. Let’s not go overboard, we do not play to be relegated. We are playing to fight for the title. That’s why we have to put criticism in the right place. That’s why we have to put criticism in the right place. After 20 years I’m used to it.

“We had a very, very bad week and it’s down to us to make this week a very good one. It’s as simple as that and that’s why you love competition. A bad week is not permanent, it’s what you make of it and how you respond. That’s the beauty of sport.”

Swansea City

Meanwhile, although the pressure on Swansea City might not be as much as on Arsenal, they will still be hoping for a turnaround, having lost their last two games against difficult opposition. They will particularly rue the last game against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, where they played particularly well and led at halftime, only to concede two goals within a short span of time in the second half.

Swansea City are still hanging dangerously close to the relegation zone, and with only three points separating them from relegation-threatened Norwich City, Swansea City fans will know they are still quite some distance from safety.

Having said that, Swansea will be buoyed by the fact that it was them who brought Arsenal’s title bid to a definitive halt two years ago, when Arsenal appeared to be cruising at the beginning of March. Furthermore, Swansea City have come out on top during their last two games against Arsenal in the Premier League, the latest of those a 2-1 win against an under-performing Arsenal side at the Liberty stadium earlier this season.

Swansea City goalie, ?ukasz Fabia?ski, would hope he can help his team get one over his former team.

Francesco Guidolin, Swansea manager, will have a full team at his disposal, with January signing Leroy Fer expected to start his first Premier League for Swansea. During the pre-match conference, Guidolin said he expects Alexis Sanchez to give his team a difficult time, but backed his team to give Arsenal a fight for the three points.

“Now I hope to see my Swansea team play well against Arsenal. It’s a difficult match because Arsenal are a good team with very important players like Alexis Sanchez — I am very happy for him.

“I hope to have the possibility to have his shirt after the game, but I hope also to have the points to help us in the table.”
