‘The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition’ Attempts To Repair Broken Relationships

Mothers and daughters often share a loving bond, but sometimes that relationship can turn volatile. Whenever there is an argument or disagreement, both sides can usually find common ground or just agree to disagree and move forward. Sometimes, though, a rift can form, causing major problems that can sometimes spiral out of control until, unfortunately, both mother and daughter are no longer able to communicate at all. Broadway World shared that when the mothers and daughters happen to be celebrities and are in the public eye, their every problem and the resulting drama is often revealed.

For the purpose of The Mother/Daughter Experiment, six famous mother/daughter pairs are willing to undergo eight weeks of what could be emotionally painful therapy and exercises in order to move forward and restore their fractured relationships with one another. For some of them, they may begin to see immediate progress during The Mother/Daughter Experiment, but for others who are in such a fragile emotional state going in, the process may prove to be too much to handle.

Therapist Dr. Debbie Magids is a licensed psychologist and will be working with the Mother/Daughter Experiment duos. She specializes in helping people on their journey toward becoming more self-aware and guiding them as they discover that the thoughts and feelings they try to hide or ignore often drive their behavior for good or bad. Once the Mother/Daughter Experiment pairs realize what the driving force is behind their behavior, they can then start to change the dynamics of their relationships for the better.

According to her website, Magids has authored several books and appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, The Nate Berkus Show, The Howard Stern Show, and many others. Working with these celebrities on The Mother/Daughter Experiment may be her most challenging job to date.

Kim Richards (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) will be appearing on The Mother/Daughter Experiment along with her daughter, Kimberly Jackson. Reality Tea shared that 21-year-old Kimberly feels like she is her mother’s caretaker during Kim’s sobriety struggle.

During a sneak peek video clip she admits, “I feel like I’m her caretaker because she’s fragile physically and emotionally. And it does overwhelm me.”

Kimberly believes she had to take on the role of the grown-up, which is one of the factors leading to their rift.

Kim states on The Mother/Daughter Experiment clip that being on RHOBH hurt her and that is was devastating to let her kids down in any way. When Dr. Magids asks her about the things she has bottled up inside, she admits there are issues still going on but doesn’t want to discuss them. Since they are in the midst of receiving therapy on The Mother/Daughter Experiment, she will need to find a way to open up in order to get past whatever problems she is currently dealing with.

Heidi Montag (The Hills) and her mother, Darlene Egelhoff, also appear on The Mother/Daughter Experiment and didn’t speak for over two years. Although they are now talking to each other, they have yet to confront their problems. Now, on The Mother/Daughter Experiment, they have the opportunity to clear the air and deal with their issues. Darlene feels that Heidi is responsible for their estrangement from one another, believing that her daughter’s ambitions for fame and Heidi’s relationship with husband Spencer Pratt were the catalysts that drove them apart. Heidi feels her mother sold her out when Egelhoff publicly expressed how she felt about her daughter’s extensive plastic surgery.

Known as the baddest of the bad girls, Natalie Nunn (Bad Girls Club) and her mom, Karen, have a very volatile relationship. Karen reveals on The Mother/Daughter Experiment that she blames herself for what she sees as Natalie’s lack of respect for authority, while Natalie believes that it stems from other issues. The recent loss of Natalie’s grandmother only compounds their emotional struggles as they try to work through their issues and problems while in therapy on The Mother/Daughter Experiment.

Courtney Stodden and her mom, Krista, have not seen each other for six months. Courtney is best known for marrying a 51-year-old actor when she was only 16. While on The Mother/Daughter Experiment, she states that she believes her mother wanted fame at any cost and used her to achieve that goal. When they are reunited on the show and finally face each other on The Mother/Daughter Experiment, Krista reveals a shocking truth about her relationship with Courtney’s husband.

Shar Jackson (Moesha) and her daughter, Cassie, are dealing with issues on The Mother/Daughter Experiment that arose after Kevin Federline and a then-pregnant Shar split up. Cassie explains on The Mother/Daughter Experiment that the breakup was devastating and as they lost their home and her mother withdrew emotionally, it negatively affected her even more. Now that Cassie has a boyfriend, Shar is afraid that he will hurt Cassie, and her fear is only having a detrimental effect on their relationship. Sharing with one another on The Mother/Daughter Experiment the sense of pain and loss they both experienced could be a healing factor that could be very beneficial to their relationship.

Jessica Canseco (Hollywood Exes) and her daughter, Josie, find themselves struggling during The Mother/Daughter Experiment as they work to find out what their true roles should be. After her divorce from former MLB player Jose Canseco, Jessica thought that coming across as the fun and cool mom would help her daughter. No longer seen as an authority figure, Josie doesn’t listen to her mother, and after Josie’s recent DUI arrest, Jessica is trying to regain control. Josie feels she is an adult and should be treated like one, even though she is still living at home and being supported by her mother. This is definitely an issue that the Mother/Daughter Experiment pair can work through.
