Jennifer Lawrence Missing From The Oscars Red Carpet, Fans Mystified

In recent years, Jennifer Lawrence has been a fixture at every red carpet event, especially at the Oscars. In her short career, the actress has been nominated for an Academy Award four times, and won back in 2013 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for Silver Linings Playbook.

Throughout each ceremony, Lawrence has been her lovely charming self, but for the 2016 Academy Awards red carpet show, Lawrence was missing in action. It was a surprise given how her goofy antics, like tripping on the red carpet and getting hit on by Jack Nicholson, really brings some much needed comedy to an otherwise stuffy event. Considering all of this, fans and the twitterverse immediately took notice. Where was the star?

There are pictures of Jennifer Lawrence striking a pose on the red carpet, but there’s no evidence of her ever being interviewed. According to Us Weekly, Lawrence was one of the last stars to show up for the ceremony, and rushed through the red carpet, which means she didn’t have enough time to give any interviews.

“There was a complete crazy frenzy when Jennifer Lawrence rushed through late,” an observer says. “[She was] literally the last to come down after everyone else had been inside for 10 minutes or so. [Joy director] David O. Russell was on her arm.”

The onlooker continued, “She was the most fussed-over celeb.”

Fans were making jokes about the whole thing:

This is just an assumption, but seeing Brie Larson had this award in the bag from day one, because she won every award leading up to the Oscars, perhaps Lawrence didn’t feel like she had to give any interviews? It seems out of character for Lawrence, but who knows?

That said, Lawrence was seen on camera at the actual ceremony. They showed Lawrence throughout some of the host Chris Rock’s jokes about the lack of diversity at the Oscars. She was also shown clapping for friend Brie Larson, when she won the award for Best Actress in a leading Role for her performance in Room.

The actress was also pictured sitting next to actress Charlize Theron, who was in attendance to support Mad Max: Fury Road.

Although Lawrence was pretty low key for herself during the ceremony, she still was in a very important conversation. Lawrence, along with actress Patricia Arquette, have both spoken out about the gender wage gap in Hollywood. Over the Oscar weekend, both attended a party for Women in Film, which honored female Oscar nominees.

At the time, Patricia Arquette said on the red carpet at the event,
“When we talk about pay inequality it’s not about Hollywood pay inequality. It’s not about actresses’ pay inequality; it’s about 98% of the industry has inequality.”

She continued, “It’s not just about lack of diversity in film, it’s the lack of diversity in CEOs and boardrooms and any position of power. There’s a bigger conversation to be had about power-sharing.”

As for Jennifer Lawrence, she was a surprised attendee at the event, and even decided to make an impromptu speech.

“I’m a huge fan of Patricia Arquette, I actually played a younger version of her once, and I love that she stood up. We’re starting a conversation, we’re getting a dialogue going…. I didn’t know I was going to be (speaking)…. Equal pay for women!”
