Kevin Hart Supports Chris Rock As Oscar Host

“This is a sticky year for the Oscars, a very sticky year. I don’t think you go to the Oscars this year and not make your presence felt,” Kevin Hart said at the Rally HealthFest on Saturday. “Not in an ignorant way but in a conservative, professional way. So people understand that you do understand the importance of values and issues and bringing people together, which is ultimately what we want.”

Kevin Hart told Entertainment Tonight that he supports Chris Rock hosting of the Oscars. The seasoned comedian signed on at the beginning but faced scrutiny once the nominees were released. Jada Pickett-Smith was one of the first celebrities to voice her disapproval of the list which had no African American nominee’s, not even Will Smith for his stellar performance in Concussion. As a result, many black celebrities decided to boycott the event, including the controversial Spike Lee.

Among celebrity boycotters, some called for Chris Rock to step down as host. They believed it would present a united front to the Oscar committee to nominate more non-black movies. Rock made it clear that he would not step down from his obligations to the Oscars. Chris would host despite grievances from his celebrity friends.

Kevin Hart, for one, did not agree with the boycotters and decided to attend. Hart expressed his hopes of one day being asked to host the ceremony himself. Although his time is in the future, Hart believes Chris Rock is the perfect man for the job this year and can address the need for diversity in a polite, comedic manner.

“Not only can Chris host, he’s going to address things the way only a comedian can,” Hart explained. “He can bring light to some tough issues through comedic things, but still make you think about it. It’s a good thing. The right guy is there this year.”

Kevin Hart supports Chris wholeheartedly, sympathizing with the comedian’s plight. In recent news, TaShyon Laneigh accused Kevin Hart, the co-star of Ride Along 2, and Marlon Wayans, star of Fifty Shades of Black, of making stereotypical black movies. She tweeted her dislike of their recent movies via her Twitter account.

“When are black celebs like @KevinHart4real and @MarlonWayans gonna stop doing stereotypical movies?”

Her allegations did not sit well with Hart who was promoting the movie in Europe. He took to his Twitter and fired back.

“I’m busting my a** so other actors of color can eventually get the title ‘Black Movie Category’ removed from the projects that we do,” he continued.

Kevin Hart did not stop there; he released more tweets showing his frustration with her mindset toward black actors working to be recognized by the Oscar committee as equal to the recognition of non-black movies.

According to Yahoo! News, he called Laneigh to the social media carpet, saying she is a part of the problem blacks are battling with the likes of the Oscar committee.

“In the future @tashyonlaneigh, I don’t want to hear you complain about any of the problems that black actors are having because you’re part of the problem.” Several of his 25 million followers tweeted their approval and support of his craft.

He ended his tweet rant with a promotion of Ride Along 2.

Hart, like Chris Rock, has put the negativity behind him. Recently, he released the date for his wedding. Kevin Hart will wed Enikko Parrish on August 8. Hart and Parrish have been engaged since August 2014. This is the 36-year-old’s second marriage. He first revealed to Entertainment Tonight that this time he will take a hands-off approach, leaving the details of the wedding to Parrish.
