Bernie Sanders Twitter Rips Donald Trump’s KKK Endorsement — You’ll Never Believe Who Retweeted It
The Bernie Sanders Twitter account has been far from silent on its disagreement with Donald Trump, and his refusal to reject the Klu Klux Klan’s endorsement on Jake Tapper’s State of the Union has inspired perhaps his most repulsed tweet yet.

Bernie’s Twitter is referring to the endorsement of David Duke, former KKK Grand Dragon, who told his KKK supporters that he felt Donald was the right choice for members of America’s pre-eminent white supremacist organization. Sanders is one of several elected officials who called for Trump to renounce the support — which was first discussed on the David Duke Radio Program.
Unsurprisingly, Bernie’s Twitter followers rushed to applaud the open criticism of Donald. After all, Trump stands at the polar opposite end of the spectrum on the issue: Sanders has attempted to characterize his campaign by the fight against racial injustice. Yet one retweet in particular really shows how detested the KKK endorsement is: Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
“Voting for these people, voting against Trump at this point is really treason to your heritage. I’m not saying I endorse everything about [Donald], in fact I haven’t formally endorsed him. But I do support his candidacy, and I support voting for him as a strategic action. I hope he does everything we hope he will do.”
The openly racist radio host honed in on how important it was for those in the KKK to do more than just vote Trump or give their thumbs up on Twitter, especially if he ends up going up against Bernie or Hillary Clinton. He also encouraged people to get involved in the campaign with the kind of volunteer work that has allowed the Sanders campaign to flourish.
“And I am telling you that it is your job now to get active. Get off your duff. Get off your rear end that’s getting fatter and fatter for many of you everyday on your chairs. When this show’s over, go out, call the Republican Party, but call Trump’s headquarters, volunteer. They’re screaming for volunteers. Go in there, you’re gonna meet people who are going to have the same kind of mindset that you have.”
Bernie’s Twitter might have even let the support for Donald slide if it wasn’t for a comment that Trump made on Jake’s State on the Union Sunday morning. In contrast with Sanders’ efforts to be as straightforward as possible, Donald swerved away from questioning about the KKK and seemed to flat-out refuse to reject the endorsement, previously reported Inquisitr.
“I don’t know anything about David Duke. I don’t know anything about what you are even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists… I mean, did he endorse me or what’s going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke, I know nothing about white supremacists. And so, you are asking me a question that I’m supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about… If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them, and certainly I would disavow if I thought that there was something wrong.”
Some criticized Sanders’ condemnation of Trump on Twitter because they felt it left out a statement Donald had made on Friday when announcing his Chris Christie endorsement. While Bernie seemed to have been referring to Tapper’s interview with Trump, it is true that the Republican frontrunner did say, “I disavow,” when asked about Duke’s support.
