Justice League Movie: ‘Mad Max’ Director George Miller May Get Second Chance At Film

A Justice League movie could be a sure thing, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice coming next month and already threatening Deadpool‘s box office throne. If it is confirmed, Zack Snyder could bring back someone who had previously been working on his own version of the film.

Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller could be one of the head honchos in charge of Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Jason Momoa’s second outing together. Back in 2008, the man who created Max Rockatansky had been deep in the process of filming a Justice League movie in Australia. However, due to the writers’ strike it ended up dead, along with Armie Hammer’s chances of being Superman. Everything had been decided until the film’s unfortunate death by Hollywood politics.

In a way, Zack Snyder may very well be the reason for George Miller getting a second chance at the film. After the success of Man of Steel, and the growing hype surrounding Batman V Superman, he may have felt Miller had something to offer. George had gotten far enough into his previous attempt that it almost happened, and he’s proven that he can handle a major film several times.

The fact that Mad Max: Fury Road has already won a few awards and is nominated for at least two Oscars as well, when the film was an action movie at heart, is amazing. Action films rarely ever receive awards these days, and for the follow-up to Beyond Thunderdome to make it that far shows Miller has something.

Of course Mad Max isn’t the only kind of film that Miller has tackled. He also produced the animated blockbuster Happy Feet as well as the Oscar-winning Lorenzo’s Oil. A Justice League movie would simply be a return to the more serious genres that George has done so well.

This is mostly a rumor though, as IMDb does not have him listed as being connected to the film. Screen Crush says it might even just be a vanity title, much like Stan Lee with most Marvel films. While Stan did have a lot to do with Marvel Comics being as popular as they are, he almost does little more than give the films his blessing.

If George Miller does end up a producer, he will be joining Charles Roven, Doug Mitchell, Barrie Osborne, Dan Lin, and Deborah Snyder in the collective honors.

Comic Book Movie also says that Amber Heard is rumored to be playing the role of Aquaman’s wife, Mera, the Queen of Atlantis, in the Justice League movie’s first part. Yes, there will be two parts, mirroring Marvel’s next Avengers epic, and the filming is set to begin in April. This possibly means Snyder is waiting to see how Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice performs before moving forward.

Sony Pictures had planned something similar before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 bombed. The Sinister Six movie has been put on indefinite hiatus, possibly until Marvel can give Spider-Man the movie they feel he deserves. Batman V Superman could bomb as well, but from the box office pre-sales, it doesn’t look likely.

The Justice League movie will also need to be able to make Aquaman interesting for the first time in decades, and make him a valuable member of the team. George Miller’s involvement might just make that possible.
