Casey Affleck Called A ‘Street-Corner Jesus’ In Most Cringe-Worthy Stephen Colbert Interview Ever

Casey Affleck looks like “a street-corner Jesus,” according to Stephen Colbert, host of the Late Show. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, although Colbert is usually “relatively unflappable,” something went wrong during Monday night’s episode featuring Affleck.

After having introduced Casey Affleck, who is currently promoting his latest movie Triple 9 directed by John Hillcoat, on stage, Colbert opened their dialogue by sarcastically thanking the 40-year-old Ben Affleck sibling for “dressing up.”

Casey Affleck came to the show wearing casual clothes and had a beard that made him look like “a street-corner Jesus,” as noted by the host of the show.

“I’m not saying you don’t look good.”

Colbert tried to explain himself, but Casey Affleck called him rude. The host of the show then said he is not being rude at all. The two were obviously distracted from talking about the actor’s latest movie, but then they finally got to discuss Affleck’s Triple 9. And just when you thought it couldn’t get it any worse… well, it did.

That’s where the interview turned into a complete disaster filled with awkwardness. Apparently, as admitted by Colbert himself later in the show, he had only watched about an hour of Casey Affleck’s latest movie before having to “bail out” to help his kid with a science project.

During the interview, Colbert even went as far as joking (or was it a joke?) that they should probably end up fighting. But when Casey Affleck turned down the invitation to fight, Colbert said that he didn’t want to fight either. Well, that was awkward.

Watch the awkwardness in all its glory here.

Another upcoming movie titled Manchester by the Sea, which also stars Casey Affleck, is one of the most talked-about films of this year, according to Boston. Furthermore, the movie is actively generating buzz for next year’s Oscars awards.

Apart from Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea also stars Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler, and was produced by Matt Damon, who is nominated in the Best Actor category at this year’s Academy Awards for his role of Mark Watney in The Martian. This year’s Oscars ceremony will take place on February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Manchester by the Sea was presented at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where it was praised by movie critics, with some even going is far as calling it a “masterpiece.”

Matt Damon was originally ready to direct and star in the movie, but as explained by the actor himself during his interview with Variety, he didn’t want his tight schedule to “get in the way of a great movie getting made.” Casey Affleck was cast as a downtrodden New England janitor who struggles with grief and personal loss.

Kenneth Lonergan, Damon’s “favorite writer,” wrote and directed the movie, while Damon handed over the lead role to Casey Affleck.

“I already said to Kenny, I wouldn’t give this role up to anybody but Casey Affleck, and Casey instantly took the role.”

Damon also revealed that he couldn’t made it through the script without crying, and that it was “absolutely devastating” shooting the movie, as he couldn’t make it through any cut of the movie without crying.

“It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever come across. I wish I was in it, but I’m happy to just be attached to it.”

Manchester by the Sea, starring Casey Affleck, has already been praised by movie critics and could become one of the movies to fight for next year’s Oscars Best Picture race. There was an intense war over the film’s rights. While such big companies as Fox Searchlight, Focus Features, and Tri-Star all fought for the rights, Amazon won the movie’s domestic rights for $10 million.
