Dave Bautista Calls Manny Pacquiao An ‘Idiot’ For Anti-Gay Comments

Dave Bautista, former WWE superstar-turned-actor, does not have any kind words for Manny Pacquiao. The boxer let his views on the LGBT community be known when he said people engaging in sex with the same gender makes them “worse than animals.” TMZ caught up with Bautista at Los Angeles International Airport, and the actor told them just how much Pacquiao’s comments bothered him. When asked about what Pacquiao said, Dave responded, “so my opinion is that he’s a f***ing idiot.”

“My mom happens to be a lesbian so I don’t f**king take that s**t,” Bautista said, while signing autographs for fans. “I don’t think it’s funny. I’ll put it like this, if anyone called my mother an animal I’d stick my foot in his ass.”

Dave Bautista goes on to say that he still has respect for Manny Pacquiao as a fighter, and he’s still someone that Dave looks up to. But as Bautista puts it, “it’s just his personal views, you know, they’re just s**t.” But what were Manny Pacquiao’s exact words?

Pacquiao was in the middle of an interview with local Philippines broadcaster TV5. Manny is campaigning for a seat in the Philippines senate, and has actually been an elected member of his country’s House of Representatives since 2010. In the Philippines, same-sex marriage is illegal. A majority of the country is Catholic, as is Pacquiao, and during the interview he was affirming his strong conservative religious views. “It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female,” he said.

Dave Bautista isn’t going to “teach Manny Pacquiao a lesson,” or hope that he gets beat up for his comments. He has stated himself that he doesn’t wish any of that on him, but he wouldn’t need to anyway, because Manny has already received plenty of backlash online. Not to mention the fact that Nike has since terminated their contract with the eight-time boxing world champion.

“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent,” Nike’s statement read. “Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any [kind], and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”

Pacquiao also lost tens of thousands of followers on Twitter following his comments. So, it was only inevitable that Manny step forward and acknowledge his wrong-doings with an apology.

But even with the apology, Manny still let everyone know that his views have not been changed. “I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I’m not condemning LGBT,” he says in the video. “I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I’m praying for you.” That last line certainly sounds a bit backhanded and patronizing.

Dave Bautista, one of the stars of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is currently filming the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. Reprising his role as the physically intimidating Drax the Destroyer, recently tweeted a photo of himself working out in the gym. It was accompanied by the hashtag #Draxmode.

Now, if Pacquiao were to make some slanderous comments about Bautista’s mother, this photo seems to be an indicator that their conversation would not end well. Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana are returning for the James Gunn sequel, as is Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Michael Rooker as Yondu. As far as a plot for the film, there are very few details to go on, but it has been confirmed that Kurt Russell will appear in the movie, and he may be playing the role of Star-Lord’s dad.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
