Kim Matula Scores New Gig: No Hope For ‘Bold And Beautiful’ Return?

Even though Kim Matula left the role of Hope Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful more than a year ago, there have been many fans hoping she would head back to the soap to step back into the character again. Despite popping up a tiny bit via phone calls and such here and there, Hope has been off the canvas and now there is news out that Matula has scored a new gig. What’s the scoop?

Not long ago, Bold and Beautiful fans had started buzzing about the possibility of having Kim Matula return as Hope Logan. Both Liam and Wyatt were entangled in new romances with Steffy and Ivy, making some wonder if it was time for Hope to come shake things up. Even more recently, some Bold and Beautiful fans again wondered if Logan could be on the way back to town, but now it looks like that is not in the cards.

As Variety details, Matula just landed a gig with Lifetime’s UnReal, which is about to put together Season 2. Fans of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette loved the debut season of this series, which aired last spring. Created by a former Bachelor producer, it shows the fictional behind-the-scenes drama of putting together that type of reality television series.

UnReal stars Shiri Appleby as Rachel and Constance Zimmer as Quinn, and the show generated a lot of buzz recently when it was announced that Season 2 would feature BJ Britt in the role of the new Everlasting lead looking for love, Darius Hill. Some viewers may recognize Britt from his previous gig on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

What sets the character of Hill apart from the Bachelor franchise is that Darius is African-American, and the actual ABC franchise has never featured a diverse lead. The character is touted as being a professional football quarterback who is gorgeous and confident, but who is also trying to recover from a big public relations scandal.

As for Matula’s character, she will reportedly play one of the ladies vying for Hill’s attention. Kim will play Tiffany, who happens to be the daughter of a football team owner. Tiffany is said to be rich, smart, gorgeous and an all-American gal who decides to tackle the reality TV gig as a way to get out from under her father’s shadow.

Additional Season 2 UnReal cast members include Teen Wolf star Meagan Tandy, Hawaii Five-0 actress Monica Barbaro, Jane the Virgin actor Michael Rady and a handful of others, notes TVLine. Appleby and Zimmer are said to be back, as is Craig Bierko as Chet, Josh Kelly as Jeremy and Jeffrey Boyer-Chapman as Jay.

Does that mean that Hope Logan is staying away from her family and friends for good? Once upon a time, there had been some buzz that Bold and Beautiful would recast the role, but then the character was sent out of town for an indefinite amount of time.

Of course, with the way that UnReal structures its storylines, this will surely be a one-season gig for Matula, leaving the door open for a Bold and Beautiful return later on, should she choose to return. Some would argue that there isn’t really a need for this Logan family member in the mix of things these days on Bold and Beautiful, though most would imagine at some point the show will want to bring Hope home again.

As Soap Opera Digest details, Matula also recently finished production on a film called Maybe Someday. That project, coupled with this new UnReal role, would lead many to imagine that if Bold and Beautiful does ever want to bring Hope back for more than a brief appearance or phone call, they will need to look at moving ahead with a recast.

A specific premiere date for Season 2 of UnReal has not been released yet, but a summer debut is anticipated. As for The Bold and the Beautiful, viewers can tune in weekdays on CBS to see what comes next for Liam, Wyatt and the rest as they dance around with the drama and romance currently playing out.
