Will The Green Lantern Appear In ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice?’

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has a lot riding on its anticipated premiere in March. Aside from featuring the big-screen debut of Wonder Woman, repackaging two of DC’s best loved superheroes for a modern generation, and being the massive launch pad for the Justice League movies — a move that will finally see DC competing with Marvel’s The Avengers for bragging rights — the film is possibly the most important of 2016, and in DC’s cinematic history.

In the aftermath of Batman v Superman comes a swathe of popular DC releases. Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash all have films in the pipeline as DC anxiously vie to dominate the superhero genre. As part of this strategy, Warner Bros. also announced Green Lantern Corps, the new Green Lantern movie, as revealed by Total Film. The film isn’t due for release until 2020, and with the dismal performance of the previous installment, many thought it might be a while until we see the return of the green superhero. After all, the wounds are still fresh for some. However, in recent news, it seems we might see the Green Lantern a little sooner than expected.

In an interview with Pop Sugar, actor Dan Amboyer spoke about his appearance in Zack Snyder’s upcoming superhero smackdown. Apparently, and this is strictly rumor at present, Green Lantern might make his first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. On Amboyer’s IMDB page, he has been cast as “Drone Pilot” in the film, but the actor actually confirmed he was playing a Lieutenant Christie — who is supposedly the Green Lantern. Aside from this little titbit, he seemed sworn to secrecy about a lot of details, as expected. When asked about the experience on-set, he was full of praise.

“It was awesome. I got there right at the beginning of shooting and it was crazy because my first day people were showing me around and all of a sudden the Superman suit comes by — and it’s giant. It’s not something you can hang up. So that was insane. But what I thought was really interesting was that they filmed a lot of it on film, not digital. So a lot of the sets were actually built. So, all of a sudden, you’re on another planet, literally. Everything is so intricate and perfect. You think so much of that is just CGI and post-production, but it was actually there.”

So far, so cryptic. However, his response to the question about the type of scenes he filmed might just fuel the rumor fire a little more.

“Um, I don’t know what I can say that’s not spoilery. So, let’s just say, I filmed good ones.”

This could mean nothing, but in a world dominated by leaks and spoilers, the actor could be genuinely protecting a secret, one that could provide a very surprising cameo in one of 2016’s biggest cinema releases, should the rumors be true. Some of the wording in the interview could provide casual hints too. The mention of “another planet” could suggest that the film might include footage of the Green Lantern Corps somewhere other than Earth, and his reluctance to answer some simple questions shows that Lieutenant Christie definitely has something to hide — or protect. In a random question, he gave a nod to the color green as well, which might be the biggest hint of the entire interview. Superhero Feed also picked up on the brief connection on Twitter.

Whether the Green Lantern appears in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or not, the film will definitely boast a very impressive roster by release, one that already includes the titular heroes, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Lex Luthor, General Zod and, if the rumors are to be believed, The Flash, and Barbara Gordon.

With the Justice League on the horizon, DC might just use the launch pad to wow the customers and viewers, and prove that the DC Cinematic Universe is a serious contender in Hollywood. With a slew of DC properties due for release, it could be the perfect PR stunt, or a case of pure overload. It’s best to let the fans decide on that one.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne and Amy Adams, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will swoop into UK and U.S cinemas on March 25, 2016.
